Cool, and now I see its nice and sunny again.. I have a meeting downtown at 4:30, may be its time to leave a little early and get some more shutter time in!  Its been such a busy summer, I was going through photo withdrawals...

This recent completion of the Gavilon headquarters adds another project to Minneapolis-based Opus’ long list of office, commercial and educational facilities in the region, this time contributing to the city’s decadelong effort to redevelop Capitol Avenue.

“We think it’s a modern, transformative building,” Opus executive vice president Marshall Burton said of the five-story, $44 million project.

Opus will lease the building long-term to Gavilon, the Omaha grain and commodity-trading firm. Gavilon officials said they plan to make the move from their current location on the ConAgra Foods campus in phases starting Dec. 6 and wrapping up by the end of the year, weather permitting. A grand opening event is in the works.

Drove by last night.  Looks like UP with an exercise facility looking out over the street.  Appears they have a cafeteria looking out over capitol too..

I'm curious what ConAgra is doing with the space Gavilon is vacating.  The ConAgra Campus was designed for a few more buildings.  They seem to be very economical with staffing.  Do you think they'd part with some space or build for others?

I think what I heard when I worked there as a temp in the IT department in from 2011-12 was that ConAgra was going to take the space back to use as their own. But it's entirely possible that they changed plans since.

Nothing drastic or interesting.

Looks like they did false floors like TDA's headquarters.

I guess they were open today to guests:

Barbara Soderlin / World-Herald staff writer wrote:The commodities trading firm’s offices, opened to guests Monday for a symbolic bell-ringing ceremony, were built for as many as 750 employees, though 400 now report to work there.

OK, now it makes sense, I was wondering why.

Omaha City Council OKs liquor license for Gavilon
Barbara Soderlin: World-Herald staff writer wrote:Gavilon said it wanted the flexibility of hosting an event without the advance notice that an event-by-event license would require.

“Holding a license will enable us to serve alcoholic beverages at our after-hour events, when appropriate,” spokesman Pat Burke said.

I finally got a couple really nice photos of this building on Sunday Night. Most of the construction equipment was gone. The light was nice and the sky was really nice.

When Gavilon’s 400 Omaha employees (expected to rise to 750 eventually) moved into the new global headquarters last December from their former location on the ConAgra campus, they discovered plenty of amenities. The dining area offers full-service breakfast and lunch, with an outdoor patio overlooking TD Ameritrade Park Omaha. Coffee bars abound, as do conference rooms, huddle rooms for impromptu meetings, and phone rooms for privacy. The virtual environment allows employees to sign in to any computer in any room. They can also access information at home.

When asked if he might have done anything differently, Jones admits that, “I would have made the fitness center a bit bigger.” With the fifth floor finished but unfurnished in anticipation of growth, that idea might just go from virtual to reality some day.

I could think of a few other things they could have done differently...

Very glad this company was spun off of ConAgra in '08. Looking for some positives.

Anyone find it a bit ironic about how ConAgra kicked Gavilon out of their leased space on the ConAgra campus, saying they "needed the space for expansion", only to find that ConAgra itself will be vacating this space now?

It just would have been nice if they didn't sell out to Marubeni.

The only thing that really drove the design of the building was the need for a single, huge trading floor on one level. If it wasn't for that, they easily could have built taller or only occupied part of the lot. The space Gavilon was in at CAG11 had a trading floor about the size of a football field, and even then, everyone was still on top of each other. And the rats. There were rats too. They stayed mainly in the CAG 1 building, localized in the part where the board/CEO resides...

No but seriously, there were rats in CAG11 and if you looked in one spot long enough, you'd see them run across the recesses in the lighting fixtures.
