Me too. I'm still trying to adjust to the opacity of the glass on the TD Ameritrade building...

I guess the glass is pretty blue/green after all. Thanks for the update.

They have the majority of the front glasswork done. It's a shame they didn't put the camera on the north face of the building...

Speaking of the camera it looks like they made it so you have to have a company login to see it.

Yeah, I don't know what really happened with that. It has been that way for a while now.

Apparently, in the eyes of the editorial writer, the Gavilon building doesn't have what it takes to stand more than 100 years.

Not with the way Omaha mows down historical buildings, it doesn't...

It's still a shame they couldn't find a taller building project for this site but at least this building is a nice modern sleek building... with BLUE glass! I will never understand the love affair Omaha has with green glass.

Remember there's the lot to the east of Gavilon they still have to work with. And the Civic site, whatever they decide to do with it.

Even though it's a shorter building, I love the look of it with the clear glass. Plus, it means more jobs staying in the city.

Skyscrapers are neato, but I'd sure rather have 20 blocks of these than 4 blocks of towers and a bunch of parking lots/garages.

I think everyone here would be happy if they built another skyscraper only because it has been almost 10 years since the UP building was built. When it comes down to it Omaha just doesn't have the economy to justify building 600ft skyscrapers like other larger cities do every few years. I will say that Omaha's growth is very impressive considering the national economy and the fact that its not that large of a population center. Many cities would love to have the downtown growth Omaha has had recently.

I was in Minneapolis for a conference this spring, and I noticed that they have quite a bit of underground parking downtown. Is there a reason we never got on board with it?

I would think cost primarily.

Grade-Level Surface Parking – $5,000 per stall

Freestanding Parking Garage
Above-Grade – $18,000 per stall
Below-Grade – $40,000 per stall

Parking Garage Below Building
Above-Grade – $40,000 per stall
Below-Grade – $60,000-90,000 per stall

I've seen similar figures in other places but just grabbed this source.

Old Market Elevation = 1030
Missouri River Elevation = 970 +/-

The Area around Urban Wine (11th and Jones) get down closer to an Elevation of 1010

Not sure if there are natural spring in our area.  I think there are, but not sure.

Nothing a sump pump couldn't handle.

2011 was the exception to the rules...

Also in 2011, I don't think the water ever got above Elev 985 so I think underground parking in the market/CBD  would have been safe.  However North Downtown may have been a different story.  Its only Elev 992 at the the slowdown.
