13th and Cass (WST Showroom)

Could be a good spot for something!

City goes to court to regain north downtown land

Cindy Gonzalez World-Herald staff writer wrote:The City of Omaha has turned to the courts to regain control of coveted north downtown property that has sat idle for years as the developer's dream never got off the ground.

The parcel of land at 13th and Cass Streets, west of the CenturyLink Center Omaha, is owned by the city and had been leased to Kansas City area-based developer Townsend Inc., which built a marketing office and showroom there.

They should build a sales office for the Vortex Tower there.

Considering its proximity to the TDA park, and the propensity to rain during the CWS, it might be a nice place for drinks and food till such time as the current building is removed.

They were salvaging a ton from the building too.  Window panes were being carefully removed and taken away and there were holes in the walls where fixtures and wiring must of been removed.

Times are tough for Jason Townsend, he's got to make sure he can scrap all that copper wire.

The City of Omaha is dismantling the former WallStreet Tower showroom in north downtown and will put the city-owned land up for sale, expecting a restaurant, retail store or some other use to occupy the prime real estate west of the CenturyLink Center Omaha.

It looks like they're doing some sort of lettering with the yarn. Should look cool when it's finished.

Something along the lines of Cubby's gas station / mini grocery wouldn't be a bad fit for that location.

How nice would a tall thin residential tower be in that spot or a super-tall thin residential tower.

If we can't build a 1000 footer then lets get that gas station.

It's been a grass lot with an abandoned trailer home in it for the last 6 years so the gas station is a step in the right direction.

Sound like an opportunity for first floor retail - gas station with 1000' residential tower above. Perfect plan.

Just found it funny that you post a picture of a tower that sold their penthouse unit for $95 million and then say a gas station would be good too.

A gas station won't be involved here or on Lot B.

That would be a huge waste to put a gas station on such prime land. Keep the gas stations on the periphery of downtown where they belong. People can drive to get gas. Don't need it within walking distance.

I was talking about Cubby's in The Old Market Grocery Store not just a Gas Station. However you need regular services even in a urban area.

The 1400 ft building was a joke but I am happy to spark a little discussion. I wonder what kind of proposals they will actually get.

Dear god that pencil-thin skyscraper looks awful. No style to it whatsoever. NYC can have it.

Someone from eomahaforums should buy the property and build a 'projects never built museum' and keep the current building, but just extend it.

I don't mind the building, but you might laugh at the fact that the architect was inspired by a garbage can when designing it.

To each their own, I really like it and it should look great accompanied by the other Supertalls that are either UC or approved.

That spot isn't that small. Basically the same size as the lot 1501 Jackson was built on.

The views wouldn't quite be as good as 432 Park Ave. though....still not bad.

There are still some available...but check-out the prices!

I agree it would be a welcome addition to the area, as long as it didn't end up looking like a typical Quik Trip with its bright lights with acres of pavement. If it could be handled discretely it could work.
