Do news centers install their own weather radar?

I don't think so. They all share the national radar out in Valley, then there is another one at Eppley they use when Valley is down.

It wasn't that long ago, they all had their own.  Channel 7's Radar is still above the current studio, and Channel6's Radar is still out on North 72nd Street.

Well really who needs a radar when we have iPhones..

That would be awesome if AMTRAK would be a tenent in the building.  Their current station is a run-down mess, and getting on and off the train there next to the two grand, old stations just adds insult.  Their current track already runs right past it, so it would be easy for them to have a small suite in the front corner of the main building.  I'm really hoping this will happen.

There are several news stations here in Chicago that have these big windows that look right into the studio, so you can actually watch the news in person. It would be kind of cool if they could do something like that here.

Hearst request for 1.279M TIF is before the City Council Tuesday.

Demolition of the parking structure on the south side of the station has begun.  Photos later.

Our local anchors can barely hold it together in a controlled environment, imagine if all of us could troll them through a window. It would be a mess.

Not sure how that apartments are, but there is definitely a bar open in there.

Before grabbing our current apartment in early 2012 my wife and I considered an apartment in that building that was posted on Craigslist. So I imagine they're all occupied.

For what it's worth, I believe the building is called the Pullman.

Ashley & Company bought this around 11/12, finished renovated it around 02/13, and had all 26 units and 2 retail bays fully leased out. Now called Ashley Pullman Apartments.

Wikipedia says 1954.  The "Building for the Ages" Book that I usually reference doesn't include it.

Wow, I never would of guess that old.  Crazy to think that lower level has been hidden from sight for nearly 60 years!

If you look at the south roof of the Durham towards the east side, you can see a camera they put up last week pointed at the Burlington Station.

Hopefully we will have a place to view it soon!

Another Photo Update

1.  They started removing the deck yesterday.  They laid down large panels of timbers to protect the track below.


2.  At the end of the day they were removed so that Amtrak could use the station last night and this morning.

The deck referred to in Brad's 12/18 picture is all that is left (south end) of a continuous enclosed pedestrian bridge from Union Station (present Durham) south above all the tracks to the Burlington station.  I recall aprox. 12 - 16? tracks in this area at the height of passenger travel.  The noteworthy aspect in my mind of this engineering was the enclosed electric escalators (probably stairs first, then replaced with escalators, although that was before my recollection) from the bridge down to covered track level boarding platforms at each passenger train siding. Some were freight only tracks, many of which are still extant on the south side of this area...the present open, bare earth area was filed back then with passenger train tracks.  All that is gone now, and sadly, I can't recall viewing an historical picture that really displays this (throw out the challenge....).  Brad's picture probably answers my very early on question about how the Burlington remodel deals with this "bridge to nowhere", and if there would be an acknowledgement that it existed, historically speaking.  Can't say I'm disappointed if it doesn't, considering the completely new use for the old Burlington.

Union Station's collection and the Bostwick-Frohart (sp?) both have great shots taken from the NE or SE side of the two stations when the passenger services were both big.  3 tracks on the Burlington side and 3 on the UP side.

I agree. As much as I would have loved to see it converted back into a train station or something commercial or residential, anything at this point is better than what the Burlington has become now.

Same here. Considering how many failed proposals this building saw, and the continuing deterioration, this really may have been the last shot it had.

I'd still love to see Amtrak in the corner of it, though. It would be so easy too, since they're still using one of the original tracks right next to it anyway.

After Breakfast yesterday we stopped by to check out the Burlington Station Progress. They are really moving along on demolition of the north side platform. Here is a quick cell phone shot of the progress.

Nice shots Brad, especially the views you have like #4. Once they get that face cleaned up it's going to be iconic. I hope they keep the pedestrian shelter next to the track.

Since the Amtrak Station is still an active passenger station, I would assume that not only are they keeping the roof over the passenger platform, they will build a new one that fills in the gap between the two existing sections. Amtrak comes to Omaha twice a day, seven days a week. An average Amtrak train stretches from the far East end of the platform well past the 10th street bridge.
