At least it will clean the property up for now.

Kinda surprised it will only be open this Friday-Sunday and not during the actual CWS.

So just what was the purpose and did anyone use it so to speak?
For the record NEBUGEATER does not equal BUGEATER !!!!!!!

I saw some kids using it Saturday evening.

If this happens and is anything close to the height of the UP building, it will fill a significant hole in the skyline when looking toward the southwest...for what its worth.
Re: 1416 Dodge - Lanoha Highrise
I saw some people using it Sunday. Not really sure what the purpose of this was if it wasn't going to be open through the entire CWS. Seems like a lot of work for a weekend thing.

UP has recently leased space at CPP for several IT teams as they've already outgrown their building, but see this purely as a stopgap solution. They have been adamant that they'd prefer space in a building directly adjacent, so that employees could walk for meetings/ use the cafeteria/gym, etc without having to go outside (not possible between UP and CPP). I wouldn't be surpised if they've already negociated (or signed a letter of intent) to occupy at least part of the office space planned for this tower.

All good news. Aside from FNB, I wonder who else is needs growing room?

Latest proposal is to use it for 'temporary' parking.

I feel like downtown Omaha isn't really getting rid of any its surface parking. It just gets shifted around.

Interesting. Even if its temporary, won't it need to be built to current standards? If so, won't that insure temporary is not very short term?cdub wrote:Nope, for a current employer.

Re: 1416 Dodge - Lanoha Highrise
On Tuesday the city will finally rescind Ordinance No. 37588 passed on December 19, 2006 approving a Tax Increment Financing (TIF) Redevelopment Agreement with Wallstreet Tower Omaha, LLC. Let the term Wallstreet Tower be banished from our vocabulary and thoughts...
For several City Council meetings they have been clearing their books and rescinding old TIF proposals, sending them to their Projects Never Built thread. For some reason they have been spending a lot of time figuring out his to kill this TIF.

The wiffle ball field is up again. Would be nice if they found temporary uses for this land all summer instead of one weekend.

I agree, I saw it this morning and was thinking the same thing. Too bad, they can't landscape to look like the block the east before Gavilon was there. It wouldn't be that hard to put in some benches and some grass.iamjacobm wrote:The wiffle ball field is up again. Especially considering who owns it. It was mentioned before how food truck parks are a popular way to use vacant land for an easy tempory improvement.skinzfan23 wrote:I agree, I saw it this morning and was thinking the same thing. I would have to do a little dig to be sure by I think they are waiting on the TIF vote so the clock doesn't start years before construction.

Ok, that GPS is usually centered over a piece of Rebar or Pipe, The pink stake is probably so they can find it quickly when they come back.yard salad wrote:right in the middle of the lot, next to/under their GPS tripod

There was a permit application for this site in December, no real info though.

Is there a way to sticky the rendering to the top of the urban homepage? I remember it, but id like to go back and look from time to time. Same goes for any rendering, for that matter. They could all be grouped under "renderings." thoughts?

Re: Old Union Pacific Headquarters Lot
I just can't wait for this strange empty square lot in our downtown to get built on. There's almost a "If they build it...they will come" (quote from Field of Dreams) feeling around it, to me, when I circle it.
However, I'll gladly patiently wait until the right building is proposed, though. That is the perfect spot for a beautiful new tower to stand, within perfect view of Eppley Airfield travelers coming from the airport, south down Abbot Drive. It's already a neat view now. That's one my favorite views of Omaha now. From that view, the First National Bank Tower stands proudly, jutting out steps forward from the Woodmen, having a tall, abrupt, stair-stepping profile reminding me of Mutual of Omaha's building, the city's famous insurance company.

I can get pushed out because I'm "too much" for some. Then, an observer of me comes suddenly swooping in to "fill my shoes." People are always more accepting of the new one, because their feathers aren't truly ruffled by them. (Yawn) I can count on it every time.
Re: Old Union Pacific Headquarters Lot
The surveyors appeared shortly after the apparent ruckus between OPA/HDR occurred.
How funny would it be if HDR became the main tenant for a Lanoha Tower? This would be the exact type of tenant they'd need to get that off the ground. Parking garage, some apartments, additional office space, HDR, and some condos on top.
