Post by Coyote »

Time to play Where is Coyote again.
Can anyone guess where this is and the significance of the building?

Nice picture, if I didn't see the article in the paper about a month ago I would have no idea, but it is 22nd and Woolworth.
Here is the description from Wikipedia:
The Omaha Quartermaster Depot Historic District, including several brick structures built in Italianate and other styles, was built for the U.S. Army between 1881 and 1894. Located in South Omaha between Hickory and 22nd Streets, Woolworth Avenue and the Union Pacific main line in Omaha, Nebraska, the depot was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a historic district in 1979. Today, the depot is used as a U.S. Army Reserve facility.
Currently the buildings and land are for sale.

Nice shot Skinz. I didn't see the OWH article until last night, after I read yesterday's LJS article on this spot and tried to figure this place out.
I e-mailed the OWH reporter and he gave me the e-mail of the place that let him in. I hope to take better pics some time soon.
I'll post the rest of my pics tomorrow...

Thanks, that is a beautiful building. Hopefully something good can happen to it.  I agree with the article, I would hate to see it sit dormant and rot.

The OWH (military) reporter told me there were no takers, so it is going to auction. They had to board it up and lock it down because of vandalism.

I'll post later, but it supplied all military to the west for the 'Indian Wars' (including Custer), moved from the CLink after Steamboat supplies were replaced by Rail. It was built way out west in Omaha. Horses were let out in the morning, venturing up to Ft Omaha, and brought in at night.

My late grandmother works there for many years, back in the 1950s and 1960s.

Very nice pictures, thanks for sharing.  Would be fantastic if someday that could be turned into a musuem, the only bad thing is that it is a little off the beaten path.

Not sure how new it is but there's a for rent sign by both gates on this property. The gate was open and no trespassing signs are gone, I thought about going and getting a few pictures, but I didn't do it....

I guess the redevolpment of this site is underway. This story is a year old.

I have been in all those buildings back when it was an Army Reserve Site in the 1990s. I wasn't aware of it's full age but I knew about the Italian POWs being held their in WWII. At that point inside it just looked like generic government office space that hadn't been remodeled in a long long time except for a fresh coat of paint here or there.

KETV just teased a segment for Sunday at 10:00 about this project. Showed someone's art studio there.

There wasn't a ton of info. Looks like there are some artists/craftsmen working in one building. Residential plans are underway along with retail and a restaurant or brewery is being looked at.
