If the CU Noise machine moves in, then the only other people there will be section 8'ers. Everyone else that can will leave, just like at the other places downtown.TitosBuritoBarn wrote:Agreed, these look like |expletive|. I imagine some ill-informed real estate developers read somewhere that urban housing is trendy and didn't bother to find out why. Instead they figured they can build the same Celebrity Homes style junk and that'll suffice.
I hope they're not expecting much more than Creighton students to want to live here.

Vampires might like it judging from the amount of natural light you could expect from those tiny windows.bigredmed wrote:If the CU Noise machine moves in, then the only other people there will be section 8'ers. And why would you face the more interesting side of the building towards the parking lot while the "back" of the building faces the street? Come on, that's like Urban Housing 101.

Maybe they'll spruce them up a bit as they near completion. Also I believe these were marketing to a more frugal-minded clientele...maybe they won't be fancy or modern.
Re: Nichol Flats (16th and Nicholas St)
The developer's website is describing it as an extended stay hotel more than your normal apartment building. This group did the Holiday Inn in NDT and the new Even on Farnam.

So then will these rooms count as official rooms counts when they tally the city's total room count?

Are you asking whether these will officially count as hotel rooms or apartment rooms?MTO wrote:So then will these rooms count as official rooms counts when they tally the city's total room count?

No I'm asking if they'll count as burrows or dens.

After the Hot Shops Open House on Saturday, I drove by this building and it still doesn't look like much is happening?

I agree, I drive past here in my North DTO photo shoots, expecting to see something new, but no, it seems to be at a standstill...Brad wrote:After the Hot Shops Open House on Saturday, I drove by this building and it still doesn't look like much is happening?

Re: Nichol Flats (16th and Nicholas St)
I drove by last week and they were working on the interior it looked like they were loading drywall into one of the windows on a middle floor. There was no external work being done. They don't seem to be on a very aggressive timetable.
Re: Nichol Flats (16th and Nicholas St)
Well there is some siding up now. I didn't get a great look, but from the quick drive by it didn't look all that great.
Re: Nichol Flats (16th and Nicholas St)
A week ago, the siding looked so haphazard that I couldn't tell if it was in the original plan or if it was a cost-saving measure because they ran out of money.iamjacobm wrote:Well there is some siding up now. I didn't get a great look, but from the quick drive by it didn't look all that great.

This is supposed to come online by the end of the month according to the OWH North Downtown article from yesterday. How's it look?

Isn't this project being done by the same guy doing the Holiday Inn Express near the Evan Hotel? I admire his drive to reinvest downtown, but it's a little misguided.

Dr. Deepak Gangahar and Kirti Trivedi are developing Nichols Flats, "as a way to spur more activity around their Holiday Inn Downtown near 15th and Cuming Sts." They also are developing the Even Hotel and the Holiday Inn Express up the street.TitosBuritoBarn wrote:Isn't this project being done by the same guy doing the Holiday Inn Express near the Evan Hotel? I think the intentions are good, even if the execution wasn't perfect.Coyote wrote:Dr. Deepak Gangahar and Kirti Trivedi are developing Nichols Flats, "as a way to spur more activity around their Holiday Inn Downtown near 15th and Cuming Sts." I saw that, the dog always gets blamed, it was the cat.

Cat was the brains, dog was the brawn. It was totally a joint venture.Coyote wrote:I saw that, the dog always gets blamed, it was the cat.
