I can confirm there will be "construction" going on here, but I was not given a date it will begin.

Maybe they are renovating the name from flatiron to flatrion.

Actually, FWIW, while I used the word "renovation" my source used the word "construction"

There are a few other empty buildings on that side of downtown that could probably go apt too, maybe this could get some more action over there.

Next to the Flatiron, across 18th street, there is The Law Building. I think it has a lot of potential.

That ghastly old Army Corps of Engineers building near there would be great for tearing down and replacing with a high rise. One of you must have a couple hundred million to throw at it.

That is an awesome staircase. I'm particularly impressed when I see historic structures with complex curves like this, since they were all built from hand drawings, long before the days of AutoCAD and 3-D modeling. Sheesh, they were even built before power tools!

I don't know the owner, but I do know that it will be Apartments and not a Hotel.

Are they not The Dial Companies, or DP Management Properties?

I am not a big fan of black and white because I feel that it is overdone these days. But with the historical charm of this building, it deserves it. Love the picture, Brad. Just wish that stupid van wasn't in front of the building.

Thanks! All I did in High school and the first couple years of college was black and white. I always tell myself I don't do it enough. The problem I have with it is, there are way to many people that do bad black and while. It really needs to have all 10 stpes on the gray scale or it just looks really flat or overly contrasty.

I know, I hate the can too. Not the first time a stupid mini van has screwed up a shot of mine! I plan on re-shooting it when its gone... I want to actually walk out in the street a bit too to get more of the rounded front, but I didn't waste my time with the van there.

The $5 million renovation of the storied Flatiron building at 1722 St. Mary’s Ave. hopefully will set off a domino effect in the area west of the Old Market, said Royce Maynard of Dicon Corp., one of the investors.

The same group is taking an active role in nudging momentum, as it also has a hand in the recent purchase of a six-floor office structure directly to the west and another building to the south. Plans for what might happen to those spots have yet to be disclosed.

I'm going have to make a map of this area when I get home tonight. These buildings and the catering business to the south will provide a nice anchor with the Children's museum, the new apartments to the west and then Travers Row. St Mary's Ave may just come alive...

I have always thought this area south of Harney has so much potential to be a really cool district. It seems to be sort of a forgotten little area.
My son got a 27 on his ACT. No this score is not as high as what Jeff's son achieved. But one has to remember the paternal gene-pool my son has to overcome. On a PGPAB [Paternal Gene-Pool Adjusted Basis], my son's score is a 37 and Jeff's son's PGPAB ACT score is 19.

I was down at the Flat Iron building today. They are most finished demoing the second floor and demo on the third and fourth floors is well under way. New windows installed too. Really looks cool seeing the second floor post demo. It was really broken up in there before, its amazing how different it feels all opened up.

New life given to historic downtown building
Alexandra Stone, KETV wrote:Maynard is tasked with revitalizing the historic building, adding more commercial space and 30 apartments to the largely unused upper floors.

Omaha's Flatiron is one in the first group of projects to receive a new state historic tax credit as part of a program that started in 2015. Maynard hopes to have the project complete by October.
