New Downtown Library - 1401 Jones Street

Post by Brad »

Word on the street is that 1401 Jones Street has a new owner. I hear that things might get a little bazaar in there.

I think I know what he means. Basically, a farmers market, but much bigger and non-food things, like crafts, clothes etc.

If Brad has the 411 and appears to be excited, it's most likely that bath house.

Lol Nice Try Jake!

I am not sure if I am excited for a Bazarr or not? If its like one of those cool big city market places, it could be really cool, but if it is more like a flea market, I could care less.

From the article on the Harney St music scene a few days ago, I never knew Saddle Creek had their eyes on this building before they went to North Downtown. Would be interesting to see the dynamic in the Old Market area if they went here instead.

White Lotus bought it for just over a million. Being marketed now, hope it comes together this time.

That will be a nice transformation if they can make it happen.

Maybe not. The project description states that the plans for the redevelopment include a roof-top patio.

Acquired in 2016 - This three-story 42,400 square foot building is one of the remaining warehouse structures in the coveted downtown, Old Market district. We to tackle maximizing the value of the asset with clear and achievable investment objectives. Tentatively, the renovation of this building would include what we are calling an ‘innovation hub’ with an out-of-the-box office space, a coffee shop/beanery, a brewery and even a rooftop deck space. The team sees this as being a place where creativity can flourish for both a new tenant and for the general public.

The project is currently in master planning as we apply for Historic Tax Credits, and we will soon begin construction on the shell of the building while we continue to find the right tenants.

This has a nice look that will mirror the Okeefe Elevator building next door. I am not understanding the stairways though on both corners as it effectively blocks ADA access going west on Jones street. On the plus side it will be fun to watch the scooters go down the stairs to get to the old market. :)

Looks like the rendering they used in the press conference was a reuse of the first White Lotus rendering.

Okay- that’s a good location as this area is dense and very walkable..

This also clears the way for the demo of the W Dale Clark and the future development at that site…

It is indeed in the middle of most downtown residential. A bit underwhelming but I suppose they aren't working with Heritage money for this site.

Agreed..

And the good news is, we know the library system is committed to maintaining a branch downtown..and it makes sense. I never thought we’d lose a library branch in the DT core..especially with the rapidly growing population- expected to more than double by 2030…

Weird. I don't like it. Moving the main library to a decrepit old warehouse. It barely looks like a serviceable building.
