Catering Creations (1915 Jackson)

Post by Coyote »

I thought I had started a thread on this project, about an entertainment center on 19th & Jackson. I thought they were going to renovate the buildings here, but when I drove by today they were gone. I'll try to find out more...

I might have looked at the lot to the east and thought it was 0221510002, seeing from this how that is empty...

Yes. If my memory serves me correct. I believe those buildings were going to be (renovated?)

Found it. Nevermind, it looks like nothing special.

Hi Coyote,
Not as familiar with the processes as you all are, I'm curious where you look to find such information?

Most people on this forum get information from several sources. First sniffs are word of mouth and street rumors, second would be from the Planning Department, and from permits applied for or received. Once a plan is out there and you have a little information, simple Google searches turn up sketchy info. Next would be when the preliminary plats finally go to the City Council. Another good source is Loopnet, or architectural/construction firms.

Thank you for sharing your process. Do you have any links that you could share here such as for plat info from city council, permits from planning dept..etc?

yeah, I mentioned permits. I have the site bookmarked on my computer, I'm on my iPad right now...

(Edit) once you get used to how to search on each site, it gets easier to find what is relevant.

Here is the City Council Site:

I don't know the permit site. Someone else will need to get that for you.

Most people found about the Chick-fil-a on W Center due to their obtaining a permit...

Thanks for sharing. Once this area can shake off the "sketchy" vibe, it's really prime real estate. There are a few historic buildings worth renovating, and a lot of empty space and single-story industrial spaces ripe for clearing to build new residential and mixed-use. With Old Market nearly built out, it's natural for development to spread this direction.

I was just down by this building yesterday and fully agree that this neighborhood is ripe for development. It provides a unique angle of downtown Omaha as well, sort of a "backdoor" approach to the city.

I found a mention of a new downtown Quick Trip in a similar way (Grow Omaha saw that post and reported it), but it never panned out

Catering Creations is moving to an expanded space at 19th and Jackson. It'll add up to 12 more full-time jobs at the renovated building.

That's great news for the SouthWest part of Downtown! Hopefully between this and the Flatiron Renovation, more projects start to take off in this corner.

The people at Catering Creations was on 1180's What's Cooking this morning, they said this new location will quadruple their space, storage capabilities and dinners. they can handle 1600 meals a day right now. The exterior will be spruced up. I did not know they were voted city best caterers for 4 years in a row...

They should be all settled by January of 2015

$400K TIF request in the agenda. Quite the investment going into this building.

I drove by today and there was a dumpster onsite that was already full. It looks like they really want to move quickly on this project.

This is an awesome project and should add some productivity and activity to this severely-underutilized part of the city. I always love it when a business moves from a boring strip mall to a space like this.

Yep, I drive by every day on my way to work but never snap a pic. Think they opened this week, they have quite a few vans and trucks in their lot now.

I guess they care calling the event space "Founders One Nine."
