This one project won't solve anything, but it will be a really small piece of the total solution. Right now, any rain that falls on the bank property runs right off in to Saddlecreek. Any new project will need to collect that water and slowly release it in to the storm sewer system. Enough new redevelopment will help ease the problem, but it still doesn't change the fact that they built a road right down the low spot of a valley where the water wants to run naturally.

I saw a drawing again of the hotel that will be north of the Clarkson helipad with the swing radius of the tower crane. I'll see if I can get a image posted. Also, by this time next year, there will be 6 tower cranes on/around the campus.

Couldn't tell. It was a schematic drawing of an overhead view. I hope to get a better look at it later this week. I was told earlier this year that it would be 8 stories. But that was also before soil samples were taken.

The tower crane that will be used to build the hotel on campus will be 185 feet tall. Will be put up in May.

I am sure others know more about the usual height of crane vs building but I would assume that means over 150ft building likely.

It's common to erect a tower crane with an underhook height up to 50'-75' more than the height of the building being erected. That provides room for 20' or more of rigging, height of what will be lifted, plus room for clearance.

I think we are kind of talking about two projects here. For the hotel on Saddle Creek it is moving forward in the Planning Board.

Excited for this one to move forward. Will really up the curb appeal on Dodge and help make the med center area look even more dense.

Yeah that's what I was gathering. I think the area could definitely support both.

That's not a very fair statement.

I think this is the right hotel thread. The brand will be Home2 by Hilton.

If this isn't the right one, can someone move it to the correct one?

That exterior is pretty ugly. It looks..well like a hospital from the 80s.

While they are less than 2 blocks away from each other, this is not the UNMC hotel. Also, the concept drawing of this hotel looks much wider that the first concept drawing. Wonder if they have bought out the houses to the East.

Yeah I named this before any info came out about Nebraska Med building a hotel on campus. Probably could have a thread title change with this project getting a brand now.

Good brand for that location, but lets hope the final result looks better than that.

So I take it the conversation of the Saddle Creek corridor into a water feature is entirely out of the plans. I hope they build a waterproof basement.

I don't think it looks that bad. It won't win any awards, but it's not awful.

This is a cliche response from me probably, but a small retail bay on the corner would of great. Nothing gigantic, just imagine a Starbucks instead of that green space and the crowds they could draw from the hospital.

I agree. I think the proportions fit pretty well.

I do think a coffeshop in the corner would be a big hit. I could see it being popular with med students.

I believe that they were referencing the other hotel, the one on 42nd St.
