Confirming earlier suspicions, now I see Benson Brewery also tweeted to house of loom that in 2017 they would be able to walk over for cocktails after a brew day.

This building is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. I would expect $1 million in historic tax credits attached to this.

I don't know, do any politically connected groups own land nearby they might need to tear this building down for a parking lot.

Incorrect, they won't buy the Durham...it's the Joslyn and Central High School.

Yes it is. Lots of work behind the scenes. Wouldn't be surprised if it is nearly 2018 before they open.

They did just release their logo this week.

I think this is the most exciting project underway in Omaha right now. If this is done right, I think it will become an Omaha icon. I would love to know more about what is going in here. I wonder if a rooftop patio is possible? The views would be amazing.

Totally agree. But I never thought of rooftop anything here. It would have a killer view for sure!

The Greater Omaha Young Professionals is giving a 10th Street Tour on Saturday, April 29th. It is starting at the future Tenth Street Market and from what their Facebook page says, the tour will include the inside of the soon-to-be public market (old postal annex building).

$18M "Tenth Street Market" project moves forward

Work has begun at the former postal annex, as organizers continue raising money to reach the goal of $18.6M.

Now, the 65,000 square-foot space is stocking up to become the "Tenth Street Market."

Hall said the non-profit behind the project has raised more than $7M and plans to apply for grants, federal funding and tax increment financing to open by fall of 2018.

Seems pretty optimistic for not having even half the money raised yet. I'm excited about it but wonder if it's going to make it to the finish line.

It did state that they are going to apply for grants, federal money and TIF, all of which should help bridge the gap if approved.

What kind of federal funding? That doesn't seem right to me.

I lived in Nashville for 2 years (A city that is growing to fast for it's own good), and ate at the farmer's market there. Great food options from Barbq to authentic Jamaican. Craft vendors sold wares and each week a new foodie was given a special serving area to introduce their menu to patrons. Always busy at lunch and very open air feel. Two blocks away from their triple A baseball team stadium called the Sounds and the up and coming residential community called Germantown.

Went to the Dallas Farmers Market this weekend and they have a new build indoor marketplace next to their outdoor one. The outdoor is basically a big roof with open sides that is where the fresh fruits and veggies were as well as the common jerky, honey cheese people ext. Pretty normal farmers market stuff.

What I was interest in was the indoor facility. Theirs is 26K SF and really felt more like the food hall at Westroads than a farmers market. Nearly all the options there were prepared food or mercantile type offerings like wall art or t shirts. I hope Omaha's goes more toward a year round market place rather than a glorified food hall.

The things that I did like was the ability to get a beer and walk throughout both facilities. If the Omaha one gets a brewery they need to have the ability to carry throughout the facility. I also liked their fresh seafood counter, it did have prepared meals to order for lunch, but you could also buy cuts of fish to go. Makes me think some like a Jacobson Fish Co were to open a counter in this place.

There were other things I liked like ample seating inside and out along with a few different set ups for some live music.

All in all it did make me excited for this development, I think it has the potential to be really cool if done right.

A board member of the Tenth Street Market project announced yesterday that the project has fallen through.

“Due to a variety of factors, it has become clear that now is not the time for the public market,” said Kristin Williams, director of community initiatives for the Sherwood Foundation. “As such, the board has decided to discontinue its efforts.”
