City of Omaha - Hiring Urban Planner

Post by S33 »

I'm not sure if anyone here has the necessary credentials, but I would imagine some of you are as passionate about this city as anyone.

Figure I would drop this here for you guys (assuming it hasn't been already)

Sample Interview questions:

What is the procedure for the City Council to decertifying Historic Landmark status?

Speak to the value of Surface Parking Lots.

Explain convincingly why Omaha is too small for (Tall buildings, Public Transit, Bike Lanes, etc.).

Explain convincingly why it makes sense for tax payers to subsidize extremely profitable development projects by large rich development firms.

Explain why it is good for the community, that eminent domain and in some cases explosives be used to remove property owners who stand in the way of politician approved public and private development projects.

I think I am running a little short in those things called credentials but I did get a 'B' in a Urban Studies class I took at UNO back in the 80's.

Yes, because thats the planners doing all that.
Everyone has a cross to bear. For planners its politicians... And maybe citizens who don't know what they are talking about.

I do appreciate your snide remark though, stupid things get done around here, no doubt.

Add MECA into that pile with their playhouses in front of the CLC proposal.

Alternate:

Are you aroused by tall buildings or do wrecking balls get you hard?

Alternate interview questions:
Where are the lights much brighter?
Where will things be great?
No finer place then where?
Where is everything waiting for you?

picturing myself sitting in a bland and stale office, with motivational posters on the wall, goofy/ironic office supplies on the desk to raise morale, and someone on the other side of the desk asks me those questions...

Perfect. You should be intimately familiar on what it would take to "redevelop" the Old Market ;)
