Re: HDR Aksarben Office
Thanks! Your higher vantage point and camera are obviously better than mine. But hey I do what I can. In any event, it's going to be a fun ride watching this go up.
My old signature got too old. So old it was getting almost as old me as me. Yeah, it was up there in years.

Re: HDR Aksarben Office
Okay, now I think I understand the tower crane delay… They're waiting for steel to go up to anchor it against.
Re: HDR Aksarben Office
Thank you for the photos! Please keep them coming! :-)
Re: HDR Aksarben Office
I'm assuming your taking your photo's from the Pacific Life building? If so they are really nice High def photo's and I'm liking the progress being made on the building. Hopefully they can get the steel structure up before Fall. Can't wait to see the final building when it's all completed. It will truly be a amazing site to see. That Hilton hotel though is sure taking there sweet time. lol

More steel going further up today. My rotten cell phone though didn't do a photo justice.

Second story wood almost done at the Garden Inn.
Re: HDR Aksarben Office
Looks like the rest of the "Big" crane has been brought in for assembly today.

Re: HDR Aksarben Office
I was able to spruce the photo up a bit. Beams rising 4 floors high on left. Tower crane laying in yard on right.

Looking good. Driving by Aksarben Village,, I always peek over to see the progress. That whole area just keeps getting better & better.
I can get pushed out because I'm "too much" for some. Then, an observer of me comes suddenly swooping in to "fill my shoes." People are always more accepting of the new one, because their feathers aren't truly ruffled by them. (Yawn) I can count on it every time.

Re: HDR Aksarben Office
The cab for the tower crane arrived today so maybe the crane will be going up soon.

You can really see the angles taking shape on the north west corner.

Seeing that model helps a lot. This building will have quite the presence. It is amazing to see the whole area really come together in just the past two or three years.

It looks like they took a 1960's design, but to try to make it look different, they took a wedge out of the bottom corner. I'm not impressed.

Don't take this the wrong way, but what is a good design and what would you expect here, specifically from HDR? Just asking because there has been mostly complaints about our architecture lately and I'm trying to understand what's so wrong with it.ryan311 wrote:Completely agree with this opinion. It's a boring glass box with a chunk cut out from the corner. Not even a unique angle on the roof or an artistic outshoot like the top of pinnacle bank headquarters. Just very "meh". It's on par with the Think building, which doesn't make sense given HDR needs to show off a little bit of their architectural design to potential customers.Busguy2010 wrote:Don't take this the wrong way, but what is a good design and what would you expect here, specifically from HDR? Make no mistake, I'm grateful HDR decided to stay and build their new corporate headquarters in Omaha..
From a project standpoint.. I couldn't be less impressed, excited, interested..
And underwhelmed...

Agreed. I guess if anything that triangular carve out is the one thing setting it apart from any generic office building along W Dodge.Omaha Cowboy wrote:Make no mistake, I'm grateful HDR decided to stay and build their new corporate headquarters in Omaha..

There might be some truth to what the 80's group The Motels said in one of their songs...."If he likes me, he must not be good enough." In other words, the design is so damn sophisticated, that nobody else get's it. They need to tell people why it's so great.

Re: HDR Aksarben Office
For the one thousanth time, no they don't. You all have seemingly missed my other comments - the VAST majority (80 percent or more) of their work is engineering related - which means budget conscious clients. Something crazy architecturally would cost more money and likely turn off their engineering clients. Also, why? What is your reasoning for them needing to "show off" to their customers when they have an entire portfolio to do that? Nobody is booking you on the success of one building - and let alone - that building be your own. They are also very aware that the building needs to fit the area - this building fits in Aksarben very well.buildomaha wrote:It's a boring glass box with a chunk cut out from the corner. Re: HDR Aksarben Office
They were moving pieces of the tower crane around on Friday too. I was thinking that they were going to assemble it then. It seems like they are taking forever to get this up.

Re: HDR Aksarben Office
They're most likely waiting to set up the tower crane until the crane they've been using doesn't reach high enough. Simple as that. Also, tower cranes can be up to 250' tall without secondary support back to another structure.
It's funny how people on this site seem to get more excited about cranes than the permanent buildings themselves.

I don't care about the crane more than the building. To me its one of the milestones on major projects.GetUrban wrote:It's funny how people on this site seem to get more excited about cranes than the permanent buildings themselves.

Tower cranes are a highly visible indicator, from a long distance, that something significant is getting built... I'll give you that.Linkin5 wrote:People aren't excited about the crane as a structure, they are excited what it does.buildomaha wrote:Completely accurate, I couldn't care less about a tower cran...GetUrban wrote:It's funny how people on this site seem to get more excited about cranes than the permanent buildings themselves.
