My understanding is that this is only a demo package and they intend to then sell the building to a separate developer.NovakOmaha wrote:Sounds a little on the cheap sideCoyote wrote:$4.9M renovation by Curio just submitted...

Re: The World Hotel (203 S 18th St)
Some updates on this project and renderings for the interior in the OWH today (I guess this thread need to have "Peregrine" in it somewhere now?).
http://www.omaha.com/money/plus/first-l ... ef2ef.html
There will apparently be a ground-level restaurant and rooftop bar/restaurant. This looks like a great addition to that part of outer downtown, though I'm wondering how much foot traffic they'll get. It's kind of in a dead zone next to the Woodmen and the federal courthouse though there's plenty of apartment lofts just blocks away.

Looks great. I do hope they find someone willing to take the mural or mosaic that is on the building now. It is kind of charming.

Re: The World Hotel (203 S 18th St)
Also some quotes from the story:
The boutique hotel taking over the historic downtown Omaha Saunders Kennedy building is to open in spring of 2019 — with a new name that nods to its feathered falcon friends next door.
And the rooftop restaurant and lounge will take on a name related to the peregrine as well. (Both it and the ground floor restaurant will be open to the public.)
The hotel stands out for another reason: It’s in line to be the first Omaha project to tap a new financing tool approved by the Nebraska Legislature and the Omaha City Council to upgrade energy, water and utility systems in local commercial properties.
Known as PACE financing (Property Assessed Clean Energy), the program aims to improve energy efficiency in either new or retrofitted structures.
He said the murals most likely will not remain on the structure “because we are trying to restore the building back to as close to the original as possible.”
Meeting rooms, a banquet hall and gym also will go in the hotel.
Re: The World Hotel (203 S 18th St)
I think this might be the most exciting current development in my eyes.

Not sure about the target date for opening, but I was talking to someone in marketing from Hilton's corporate office in Tyson's Corner, and she assured me that the Curio brand is on par, albeit smaller, with their Conrad brand. Looks like Omaha will be getting its first high-end luxury hotel.

So glad to see this exciting restoration.
I can get pushed out because I'm "too much" for some. Then, an observer of me comes suddenly swooping in to "fill my shoes." People are always more accepting of the new one, because their feathers aren't truly ruffled by them. (Yawn) I can count on it every time.
Re: 203 S 18th St -- World Building
I never knew this. Thank you for sharing that bit of info. Sad that they tore 2/3 of it down, especially for that ugly piece of parking garage!PotatoeEatsFish wrote: ↑Mon Oct 10, 2016 9:16 pmIm surprised they didn't tear the whole thing down.SaveOmaha wrote:This building was originally the Brandeis Theater. Google it! Crazy right? They lopped off 2/3 of the building to build the parking garage next door.
Re: The Peregrine Hotel (203 S 18th St)
For what it's worth, this building is one of the few remaining examples of Art Nouveau architecture in Omaha (the only other buildings I've seen are the old Brandeis Department Store and a small apartment building that was re-habbed a few years ago west of downtown). The original building (demolished in 1958 to make way for the current parking garage) housed the Brandeis Theater, considered to be one of the finest examples of Art Nouveau in the United States. Art Nouveau really never took off in the U.S., but if you go to Prague or Brussels, it's everywhere.
Re: The Peregrine Hotel (203 S 18th St)
I drive by the building every so often, and it's looking really good. The building was in fact granted local landmark status in 2017. I think this will be great for this part of downtown, especially with the Logan Building also being renovated.

Is this project still moving along? Have they started working on the interior? I just saw that there is a 'review' on Tripadvisor confirming Ricko's rumor about money issues.

Woah, interesting clap back technique.
Re: The Peregrine Hotel (203 S 18th St)
I thought so too. The review is pre-pandemic or right at the beginning, so unless they qualified for some of that sweet government relief money or their investors gave them more money to burn, the developers are probably in worse condition than they were when the review was published.

From the 5/21/2018 W-H piece-
“Nirav Shah of Chattanooga, Tennessee-based ViaNova Development said his company likes to identify its real estate projects with something outstanding about the host neighborhood or city.”..
Sounds like a question only the developer can answer regarding possible money issues for this project..
Unless someone here has some inside intel...

I didn't think to look at their Facebook page. They post everyday and have photo updates. So it looks like they are still on track. Re: The Peregrine Hotel (203 S 18th St)
I know some people were bent up about the removal of the mural panels, but I think they were detracting from the building. \
I also really love the curved windows at the top. Much better than the previous windows.
Amazing shots Brad!

Re: 203 S 18th St -- World Building
I was reading through old posts on this project and came across your old comments about having a Klimpton. We have arrived, at least with the Blackstone/Cottonwood hotel, and it's looking great. Between that, the Peregrine, and the Indigo at the Logan we are getting a nice collection of new boutique hotels in downtown/midtown.iamjacobm wrote: ↑Mon Oct 24, 2016 8:29 pmTotally on board for the Kimpton. Spent two nights at a Kimpton in Dallas this weekend and had a fantastic time.nativeomahan wrote:This is exciting news. I'm tired of seeing the same boring chain hotels popping up all over town. The Even and now Tru will help establish downtown Omaha as a more chic urban destination for out-of-towners.
Now, if we could only get a Kimpton.

They are working on the First Floor / Lobby area.
Doesn’t look like much happening on upper floors at this time.

They have an opening date set for Nov 23rd.

Here's a link to a pic of the view from the rooftop bar. We need more rooftop/top floor restaurants and bars in downtown.

Re: The Peregrine Hotel (203 S 18th St)
I believe this will be the only highrise rooftop bar in Omaha. I can’t think of another. We do have some bars located on the 2nd floors around town, but nothing this high. Hopefully it does well. With COVID it will be a challenge. I was on a Hotel rooftop bar on the 12th floor in the Lincoln Park area of Chicago a few years ago it was fantastic.

I would go to a bar in the top of the FNB tower, something like the bar in the top floor of the Hancock tower in Chicago.

Staying at the Peregrine for the weekend. Very nice place! Here’s some pics including the view from the rooftop bar - rooftop bar opens in May but the lounge bar is open.
