22Q Senior Housing (former St. Agnes)

Post by Coyote »

Looks like St Agnes at 23rd and Q is now on the market. 1.35 acres that includes the Church, school and two residences for only $400k. With easy access to the interstate it will be interesting to see who takes this project on!

The school is really ugly, but I sure hope they keep the Church and Rectory.

When we took the Durham's South Omaha trolley tour this summer, our guide mentioned that the church has foundational issues and would likely need to go. It will be too bad if that happens, the building still looks great.

I've toured it and there are major issues with the foundation on the northeast corner of the church. It will have to come down in my opinion.

http://www.omaha.com/money/archdiocese- ... 7ff44.html
The 130-year-old St. Agnes Catholic Church and related buildings appear headed for the same fate as a few other Omaha parishes in the past few years: The campus at 23rd and Q Streets has been sold to a developer who expects to replace it with rental housing.

The Rev. Carl Zoucha said the religious structures had deteriorated to the point of no feasible repair.
This week, the Omaha Archdiocese sold the campus, including the school, convent and rectory, to Omaha-based Foundations Development. Patrick Regan of Investors Realty represented the archdiocese and said it declined to give the purchase price.

Foundations’ Rob Woodling said he envisions housing but said it was too early to say what specifically might be built, or when.

Woodling’s company has a record of transforming properties east of 72nd Street into apartments. In 2014, for instance, it replaced the former St. Ann Catholic parish at 24th Street and Poppleton Avenue with family-style affordable apartments.

In 2016, it bought St. Patrick parish at 14th and Castelar Streets. The church, built in 1910, was razed along with the rectory and gym. The school building is to be renovated as part of a proposed apartment complex for low- to moderate-income families and independent senior citizens. Woodling said he is still working to obtain funding.

Shame it can't be saved. A lot of old churches like that can be beautifully converted to new uses.

Too bad, they can't convert the church into living spaces.

I noticed a week ago that the roof was being taken off the church. Today when I went by the rectory is now gone. Church’s roof totally off except for main beams.

They started knocking down the church’s walls yesterday and as I drove by tonight there was much left standing.

Yeah that is where the old church and church school building were torn down the year before I moved.

Here is the OWH story by Cindy Gonzalez:

Apartments for seniors, new moms to rise on former church grounds
When finished, the 23rd and Q Streets property is to have a new $6.3 million, four-story apartment structure containing 40 units dedicated to seniors.

Eight of those units are to be rented at the market rate; the rest will be reserved for households making 60% or less of the area median income who will pay more “affordable” rents.

It’s good to add even a little more density to that South Omaha business district area.
