Callahan’s firm will add square footage by expanding its current location into the space next door, formerly occupied by Hutch, the vintage furniture store that is also moving into a larger Midtown Crossing location this spring.
The Callahan Financial Planning expansion project, now underway, is expected to be complete in late spring 2015. The finished office will be approximately 50 percent bigger and will include a shared working space to support collaboration among staff.
“This type of setting has been valuable when performing financial planning and allows our team to more effectively come together to do problem-solving towards unique client situations,” Callahan said.
With the expansion, Callahan Financial Planning is looking to hire financial planning professionals and recent finance graduates. Interested individuals are encouraged to visit the company’s website to view career openings and apply online for new positions.

Back by popular demand, Cupid’s Undie Run, the wildly popular, global fundraising phenomenon streaks through Midtown Crossing on Saturday, Feb. 14. The “one mile(ish) run in your bedroom best” benefits the Children’s Tumor Foundation (CTF).

Cupid’s Undie Run will be held rain, shine or otherwise from 12 – 4 p.m., including pre- and post-run parties. There is still time to register online! Last year’s event raised more than $36,000 locally. Event organizers hope to eclipse that amount this year.

100 percent of the fundraising goes directly to CTF, the world’s largest non-government organization dedicated to ending genetic disorder called neurofibromatosis (NF). NF triggers tumor growth throughout the nervous system and can cause blindness, deafness, learning disabilities and severe chronic pain. It affects roughly 1 in 3,000 births in the U.S. Right now, there is no cure and few treatment options.

Coming on the heels of last year’s successful Thursdays in the Park series, the Zydeco Festival will take over the Pavilion at Turner Park on Saturday, June 27 – a full day of music, Creole- and Cajun-style food and activities. Zydeco, itself, has evolved into a regular jambalaya of musical genres. Bluesy at its roots with that Creole influence, modern zydeco also incorporates R&B, soul, reggae and rock.
The Zydeco Festival is sponsored by Cox Communications. Element Omaha Midtown Crossing is the hotel sponsor.

Royal Lux will be at 33rd and Farnam Streets, next to Garbo’s Salon, which recently expanded.

My only regret is some of the events moved here from other venues, instead of being completely new events. It would have been nice if Lewis & Clark landing could have been upgraded to keep Playing With Fire down there at least. Glad PWF is coming back with more shows though.

Consider these changes since 2007:
» Total real estate value within Destination Midtown boundaries (generally, Center to Cuming Streets; 24th Street to Saddle Creek Road) jumped about 28 percent, according to figures from the Douglas County assessor. Citywide, valuation rose about 21 percent.
» UNMC’s facilities — some new and some still being renovated — are set to add investment of nearly $700 million.
» Urban Village’s rehabilitation of about 400 homes (mostly apartments) brought nearly $40 million to the area. Additionally, the developer and property manager has started work on creating a $22 million apartment complex.
» Green Slate Development has drawn nearly $25 million to the once-bleak Blackstone business district. That doesn’t count what commercial tenants paid to tailor their own spaces, but does include two just-started apartment buildings. Another $5 million in newly constructed retail and residential space is anticipated in the next year, said Green Slate’s Matt Dwyer, but details have not been announced.
At Midtown Crossing itself, 40 businesses are operating. The reshaped Turner Park is expected to draw nearly 300,000 visitors this year for various events, up from about 40,000 the first year, said development spokeswoman Molly Skold. Overall, she said, the occupancy rate is about 90 percent at Midtown Crossing’s 200 apartments and 300 condos.
