Midtown Crossing wrote:Omaha, Neb. – Callahan Financial Planning, an Omaha-based independent financial planning and investment management company, is expanding its office in Midtown Crossing, an expansion prompted by four years of impressive growth.
The firm, located at 3157 Farnam St., opened in September 2010 pioneering a new way to pay for retirement and investment advice in the area. Callahan Financial Planning now manages more than $65 million in assets.
“We've reached capacity in our current space,” said William Callahan, president, Callahan Financial Planning. “We need more conference and office space so we can hold more client meetings simultaneously and add more financial planners to our team.”
“We attribute our success to our ‘fee-only’ status, a model where we are only paid directly by our clients, and without sales commissions or hidden forms of compensation. This has allowed us to do a significant number of retirement plans since our opening, which in turn has further established our leading role in Omaha,” said Callahan who, last November, was named one of the Midland Business Journal’s prestigious 40 Under 40. "If you're thinking of retirement and live in Omaha, what we do really ensures you’re completely prepared, and our conflict-free approach aligns your interests with those of your financial advisor."
Callahan’s firm will add square footage by expanding its current location into the space next door, formerly occupied by Hutch, the vintage furniture store that is also moving into a larger Midtown Crossing location this spring.
The Callahan Financial Planning expansion project, now underway, is expected to be complete in late spring 2015. The finished office will be approximately 50 percent bigger and will include a shared working space to support collaboration among staff.
“This type of setting has been valuable when performing financial planning and allows our team to more effectively come together to do problem-solving towards unique client situations,” Callahan said.
With the expansion, Callahan Financial Planning is looking to hire financial planning professionals and recent finance graduates. Interested individuals are encouraged to visit the company’s website to view career openings and apply online for new positions.

IIRC, I can't remember if I posted this before, Callahans will be taking up part of the former Hutch bay, while the Nails Spa will be expanding to the other part. I don't know how many more bays are open in MC, they may be near capacity.

It's impressive how the retail bays have been filling out in MTC. Once they're full, I expect we'll gradually see more new retail development in the Farnam/Harney corridor in midtown.

With the trend to more development on Leavenworth, I bet more retail/service will start popping up there too.

MTC wrote:Omaha, Neb. – It puts the hilarity in charity, the fun in fundraising – and it’s coming up on Valentine’s Day. Back by popular demand, Cupid’s Undie Run, the wildly popular, global fundraising phenomenon streaks through Midtown Crossing on Saturday, Feb. 14. The “one mile(ish) run in your bedroom best” benefits the Children’s Tumor Foundation (CTF).

Cupid’s Undie Run will be held rain, shine or otherwise from 12 – 4 p.m., including pre- and post-run parties. There is still time to register online! Last year’s event raised more than $36,000 locally. Event organizers hope to eclipse that amount this year.

“This is Valentine’s planning made easy,” said Suzanne Diefenbaugh, marketing specialist, Midtown Crossing. “Bring your sweetheart. Party some, run some, party some more – and help raise money and awareness for the Children’s Tumor Foundation. It’s going to be a fabulous time.”

100 percent of the fundraising goes directly to CTF, the world’s largest non-government organization dedicated to ending genetic disorder called neurofibromatosis (NF). NF triggers tumor growth throughout the nervous system and can cause blindness, deafness, learning disabilities and severe chronic pain. It affects roughly 1 in 3,000 births in the U.S. Right now, there is no cure and few treatment options.
They have had a bunch of red lights up for the past several weeks to.

Midtown Crossing wrote: Zydeco Festival Coming to Turner Park This Summer

Omaha, Neb. – Midtown Crossing’s Turner Park has been selected to host a uniquely-created, regional Zydeco Festival this summer. The one-of-a-kind festival will feature the finest and most treasured musical artists from throughout the New Orleans, Louisiana region.
“Zydeco is best described as an ‘auditory party.’ Once the music starts and those accordions start firing, it’ll be almost impossible to not start dancing,” said Molly Skold, Midtown Crossing’s vice president of marketing and communications.
Coming on the heels of last year’s successful Thursdays in the Park series, the Zydeco Festival will take over the Pavilion at Turner Park on Saturday, June 27 – a full day of music, Creole- and Cajun-style food and activities. Zydeco, itself, has evolved into a regular jambalaya of musical genres. Bluesy at its roots with that Creole influence, modern zydeco also incorporates R&B, soul, reggae and rock.
The Zydeco Festival is sponsored by Cox Communications. Element Omaha Midtown Crossing is the hotel sponsor.
“We are excited to be sponsoring Omaha’s first Zydeco Festival,” said Kim Rowell, Vice President and Omaha Market Leader for Cox Communications. “We think it will be a great opportunity to celebrate summer in Omaha by joining with family and friends to enjoy a fun-filled and unique music experience.”
“Southwest Louisiana rhythms meet Midtown Omaha hospitality,” said Amanda Sampino, Element’s general manager. “We’re excited to welcome guests from around the region and help them rest and recharge after a fabulous day of dancing, eating and enjoying.”

That festival should be a great time. I went to a similar festival in Eastern Iowa and it was great. Obviously here, the scale of the festival will be much larger, so it should be awesome.

Cupid's undie run is being moved indoors due to weather.

I was surprised to see it's only going to get into the 20s after getting close to 50 today.

Royal Lux will provide skin treatments including Botox, fillers and laser facials and hair removal, and will also treat wrinkles, fine lines, scarring and stretch marks.

“Early preventative measures can lead to long lasting results,” Sharma said. “We will offer services specially-designed for younger folks who are looking to fend off the signs of aging.”

Royal Lux will be at 33rd and Farnam Streets, next to Garbo’s Salon, which recently expanded.

It's impossible not to get your heartbeat up when listening to Zydeco. This should be a fantastic early summer party, coming just one day after the Memorial Park concert.

This is awesome! There was a little bar down the street from where my wife and I lived in Urbana Illinios when I was in grad school that frequently hosted a local zydeco band. If you've never heard it, you're missing out on a very fun, unique sound. This is definitely one even I'll be going to at MTC this year.

Anyone else find the irony of a risk-assessing-based business like insurance, venturing into some of the most risky businesses in development/food/drink/entertainment, and becoming successful doing so?

It's impressive, to say the least.

GetUrban wrote:Quite an impressive line-up for the summer. MTC has become a great venue.

My only regret is some of the events moved here from other venues, instead of being completely new events. It would have been nice if Lewis & Clark landing could have been upgraded to keep Playing With Fire down there at least. Glad PWF is coming back with more shows though.

The same could be said for Stinson. Some events have moved there, but will soon be another great venue for outdoor music with more events in the plans...
I also think now with River's Edge, L&C may be on the short side of events (unless the Baby Bob us built)...
Will Taste remain there? Or what is L&C planning for this year, besides that guy with a plug in guitar with no electrical cord...

I stopped at Midtown Crossing tonight and noticed signs in the window at Ingredient: "SORRY WE ARE CLOSED FOR RENOVATIONS / We apologize for any inconvenience." There's no mention of being closed on their website or social media; the last post on their Facebook page was yesterday's specials. It looked like there were some people working in the back, but I couldn't see what was going on, as all the lights in the dining room were off.

Although it wouldn't surprise me if these "renovations" ended the same way they did at the One Pacific Place location, I'm torn as to whether I'd be disappointed if Ingredient didn't reopen. Service and food quality wasn't up to par the last few times I was there. The Midtown location was always superior to the one at OPP, but it had been pretty disappointing lately.

On the other hand, the sandwich I got from Lenny's -- the reason I stopped at MTC -- was tasty! :)

I hope Ingredient stays, or is replaced by something with a similar concept. It's always been a nice, decently-affordable but still classy enough place to have lunch or a casual dinner with friends.

Here is the article:
5 years later, what Midtown Crossing has meant for area development

Image
Consider these changes since 2007:
» Total real estate value within Destination Midtown boundaries (generally, Center to Cuming Streets; 24th Street to Saddle Creek Road) jumped about 28 percent, according to figures from the Douglas County assessor. Citywide, valuation rose about 21 percent.
» UNMC’s facilities — some new and some still being renovated — are set to add investment of nearly $700 million.
» Urban Village’s rehabilitation of about 400 homes (mostly apartments) brought nearly $40 million to the area. Additionally, the developer and property manager has started work on creating a $22 million apartment complex.
» Green Slate Development has drawn nearly $25 million to the once-bleak Blackstone business district. That doesn’t count what commercial tenants paid to tailor their own spaces, but does include two just-started apartment buildings. Another $5 million in newly constructed retail and residential space is anticipated in the next year, said Green Slate’s Matt Dwyer, but details have not been announced.
At Midtown Crossing itself, 40 businesses are operating. The reshaped Turner Park is expected to draw nearly 300,000 visitors this year for various events, up from about 40,000 the first year, said development spokeswoman Molly Skold. Overall, she said, the occupancy rate is about 90 percent at Midtown Crossing’s 200 apartments and 300 condos.

It does seem strange, since one of those restaurants was recently voted as having the most dog friendly patio in the city.
