Really? That was supposed to be something else, but they were taking core samples a few weeks ago, so I figured something was going to happen soon...iamjacobm wrote:TIF request for a Hilton Garden Inn SE of Frances and Aksarben Dr. Between the new garage and BCBS.

Good to hear this. Hotels are filled with people who need to eat lunch and dinner at restaurants. And they apt to populate bars and movie theatres. This adds people to the sidewalks, creating more of an urban feel.

Re: Official: Aksarben Village
Good to hear but I am surprised there is going to another hotel. There are already 2 in AV and a new Hampton Inn right on 72nd. Not to mention Aksarben Suites (in the old Doubletree hotel) and also the Ramada on 72nd and Grover with 3 other hotels at that intersection.
Re: Official: Aksarben Village
There were to be apartments on the west side of the garage. I wonder if the hotel is in addition to or in place of them. There are 2 lots but the one north of the garage doesn't seem like it would be big enough for the hotel by itself even assuming they use the garage for their parking
Re: Official: Aksarben Village
Hopefully it's not as suburban looking as the other one.
Re: Official: Aksarben Village
Agreed...I think it would be really nice to see a modern building added to the Aksarben skyline.Linkin5 wrote:Hopefully it's not as suburban looking as the other one.
Re: Official: Aksarben Village
This lot is pretty small...if it comes to fruition, I'd expect to get 5+ stories out of this plot.
Re: Official: Aksarben Village
Just searching around it looks like their normal go to is pretty traditional looking structures.

In Aksarben Village, developers led by CFM Realty Advisors plan to build the Hilton Garden Inn Aksarben southeast of Frances Street and Aksarben Drive.
The hotel would be a change from previous plans for housing at that location.
The five-story hotel would have 124 rooms, plus conference and meeting space and about 3,000 square feet of retail. The ground-floor retail, and an outdoor patio with swimming-pool visibility, would face Aksarben Drive.

Re: Official: Aksarben Village
To me it sounds like just the ground-floor retail, pool and outdoor area would face Aksarben Dr. Maybe they do mean the whole hotel. If that is the case, this would be one long-skinny hotel.Coyote wrote:Facing Aksarben Drive???
Re: Official: Aksarben Village
I suspect the front of the hotel plus the majority of its rooms will face Francis with the retail, etc. + some rooms will face Aksarben Drive. I am guessing that they are going to use both of the lots which would make it an L shaped building.

That would take out one of the entrances to the Garage.hatwate wrote: I am guessing that they are going to use both of the lots which would make it an L shaped building.
Re: Official: Aksarben Village
Ooops. Forgot about that so they must only be going to use the lot that faces Frances unless they are going to bridge that entrance.

Re: Official: Aksarben Village
They would do that unless they left the garage entrance open since that is the main one most people use. In the old renderings there were two housing projects proposed. I wonder if the 'lofts' section is still in the works. There isn't much space there.
You can see them here:

Re: Official: Aksarben Village
The "Lofts" space appears to be about the same depth as the "walk-up" style apts along 65th, if not a little more. 60 feet deep, IIRC. Should be plenty of room.skinzfan23 wrote:They would do that unless they left the garage entrance open since that is the main one most people use. Re: Official: Aksarben Village
I find it interesting the evolution of AV. It seems like hotels and offices will dominate this area because of the University and its entertainment district at the expense of residential. Wasn't the area where Blue Cross Blue Shield is supposed to be residential originally?

Re: Official: Aksarben Village
Just talked with one of the architects for Zone 6. It doesn't sound like they are going to break ground as soon as I heard Jay Noddle claim a few months ago, but t he design is still basically the same. Two buildings on the SW with a parking garage hidden behind. Apparently they are still looking for more major tenants, and the Food Truck area is not in the works, yet...
Re: Official: Aksarben Village
There is a mention of the site in the planning board agenda so it is for sure moving forward.Coyote wrote:Just talked with one of the architects for Zone 6. Re: Official: Aksarben Village
Are they going to do the whole zone 6 a one time or start with that hotel on the east side?

Since I live across the street East from Zone 6 I am really curious about this. What type? Is there other info somewhere?Brad wrote:hatwate wrote:Hotel?Brad wrote:Are they going to do the whole zone 6 a one time or start with that hotel on the east side? There are two hotels, one by Pac Life/Blue Cross and another on the east side of Zone 6.Coyote wrote:The hotel is going north of the Pacific Life Garage.
Re: Official: Aksarben Village
I started thinking about it, may be that hasn't been released yet. Several months ago someone told me there were two hotels going in to Aksarben, one by Pac Life/Blue Cross and one over on 67th street. For some reason I was thinking they were both announced at the same time, but I guess not. Oops.hatwate wrote:Since I live across the street East from Zone 6 I am really curious about this. Good grief, how many of these little hotels can this town support?? They're everywhere!

I don't think it's current. HDR updated their logo a few years ago, the one in the margins is their old one.

The renderings are good but in real life everyone walks around looking at their cell phones. None of the people in the renderings are doing this.MSizlack wrote:Don't know how new/old this is.

The two hotels being referred to, are they both new ones that have not broke ground yet? I knew there was one more coming did not known there were two additional?

Either way, one in front of Blue Cross, by the Pacific Life Garage, and one on the east side of Zone 6, but the apartments. The one on the east side of zone six is not "official" just a credible rumor.
