Great use of that space. I hope something similar to this goes in the space west of the Pacific Life garage.

Any news on what's going in the bay on the first floor, SE corner of the Gordman's building? I saw the LEASED signs up and it looked like a Coming Soon banner was added, but I forgot to go look at it today.

I heard about this yesterday, but the W-H just ran a story. Ron Samuelson is opening a restaurant/cocktail bar. The bad news is the future for M's looks more uncertain than it did before.

Glad to hear about the Hilton, I was going to ask if anyone had heard anything yet. It was supposed to break ground in May and 3 months later still nothing. Any idea if it is still going to be 5 stories?

With future of M’s Pub ‘up in the air,’ co-owner is moving on, with new coctail lounge opening in fall
Ron Samuelson, who has run M’s for 30 years with business partner Ann Mellen, plans to open Herbe Sainte, a restaurant and cocktail bar, this fall on the ground level of the Gordman's building in Aksarben Village.

He’s aiming for a mid-October to November opening for Herbe Sainte, a New Orleans-focused cocktail bar and restaurant. He’s working with nephews Justin and Aaron Halbert, both of whom have worked at Benson’s Lot 2, among other Omaha restaurants.

Instead, the menu will be more seafood-centric, and Samuelson said Herbe Sainte will serve Gulf oysters and shrimp.

I was on Eat-Fit-Go's website today after hearing about Freshi and saw that Eat-Fit-Go has big expansion plans listed on their website. They plan to go open franchises at 14th & Farnam, Papillion, Millard Lumberyard, CB, Kearney and Norfolk in Nebraska as well as a few other stores in Arizona and KC area.

I think the Eat-Fit-Go, Freshii, Fuel Fit Kitchen boom feels like the froyo bubble. I am sure some will stick around, but I don't feel like they will all make it.

I believe the quote "Nobody goes there anymore. It’s too crowded." is attributed to Yogi Berra, although he claimed he never said it.

Speaking for the, ahem, upper end of the demographic spectrum, if we're not going to Aksarben Village for an event, it's become a bit of a pain. We used to go to Aksarben Village much more often back when it was easier to drive through and park. Aksarben Cinema was our favorite theater, but now there are crowds in the area for every little event (and big events over at Baxter Arena) and that actually makes it easier to park at nearly any other movie theater. Ditto for restaurants that can more easily be accessed elsewhere, even though A.V. is closer to us.

I know -- success is a horrible thing to complain about, isn't it?

But those of probably the same demographic that live at the AV, love it!

In terms of parking a "long ways" from your destination A/V is probably the most pleasant place in the city to do it. You don't have the hills like MTC and DT. Don't have the sketchy underlit streets like Benson and DT. Don't have to walk over a football field's length at Westroads. Don't have to pay for parking like DT.

A/V you can park in a garage for free, walk on flat well manicured sidewalks that are well lit and not run into shady characters. To me walking from the garage behind Jones Bros to the movie theater or Dudley's is pretty dang easy. Can walk almost that far from the edge of the parking lot at Hy-Vee if it is busy.

Lets concede the fact and reassing AV as downtown, heck we'd have better luck gettting high rises here than inside the 460 loop.

No, it is in the vacant lot north of the Pac Life garage and across the street from BCBS.

Does anybody know when the lot that is east of Pacific Life/South of DJ's is going to be developed? It's such an important lot being on the busiest intersection in the area.

Apparently the discount rooms will be located on the back side of the hotel, featuring the lovely view of a concrete parking garage.

I haven't been over to AV for probably 3 or 4 years (right after they put in the building that jones bros is in), but my wife and i went to baxter for the baby fair, and i was really impressed. The whole area is pretty incredible, from the nukber of apartments, hotels, restaurants, and overall feel of the area. The farmers market was hoppin, too. The only downfall is that it'd be nice to have some signs up saying which businesses are which direction. Otherwise, very cool.

It will be an office building (4 or 5 stories) and the new home of Baird Holm law firm. It is to be completed in 2019.

Yes, I agree. If this trend continues, it will reminiscent of the suburban sprawl in the 50's - 70's. You think that we would have learned something from the past. If you spread the city out too thin, and have no distinct core urban area, you lose some of the uniqueness of a particular city.

By the way, not saying the Baird Holm building rumor is wrong, but I have heard from several sources that Pacific Life would like to use that space for future expansion. Whether that includes having the building to themselves or joining with another company, I am unsure.
