Did they change the flight path for helicopters recently? I like a block north of Dodge on 42nd and this week I noticed a lot of copters heard toward the Med Center right over my place very very low. Never had them flying over us this much in the past.MSizlack wrote:Currently 2 roof top pad with only one open and the Clarkson pad. Cancer center will have 2 pad with a 3rd possible if needed in the future. The temporary pads will probably be in the parking lot on the South-West corner of Farnam and Saddle Creek. Sounds like they need to vote on the temporary pads (for cash) to get it done. They are trying hard not to delay the UNMC hotel.

Approach and departures as a lot to do with the wind direction.

Buffett Cancer Center will be one of 14 in the US and Canada to implement IBM Watson.

Oncologists will upload the DNA fingerprint of a patient’s tumour, which indicates which genes are mutated and possibly driving the malignancy. Watson, recognised broadly for beating two champions of the game show Jeopardy! in 2011, will sift through thousands of mutations and try to identify which is driving the tumour, and therefore what a drug must target.

They should let Shamrock use some of Watsons clock cycles given how complex...

Re: Nebraska Medicine
Yeah I think it still has 2 more floors to go as well.
Re: Nebraska Medicine
From the north it looked like part of that top floor was already under construction. I thought the top floor only covered a portion while other parts of the building were a little shorter.. And from the north I'm talking Wendy's drive through its harder to see when you down on saddle creek.

I'm going to miss watching these cranes it has been fun watching them. Zipping around midtown I always looks up to see if I can see a crane and seriously you'd be surprised how often you can. I'm hoping the Dr Lord tower breaks ground although they haven't even started the process for them to move to... The campus feels more and more like its own city.
Any guesses as to how much longer they'll need the the tall crane?

Re: Nebraska Medicine
It will be up until at least the curtain wall is complete, and there's rooftop equipment (ventilation fans, etc) that will need to be installed as well. It's safe to assume both cranes will be up until the end of this year.MTO wrote:Any guesses as to how much longer they'll need the the tall crane?
As for floors, the research side is underway with Level 10, so there will be one more full level (roof), plus some smaller areas above that (roofs above the elevator and stair shafts). The clinical side is wrapping up Level 6, so there will be three more full floors, plus helideck and two misc levels above that.

I was looking through MAPA's FY2016 TIP draft and noticed that the Saddle Creek Realignment is still listed. Construction is set for 2019.

They want to get employee parking off the main campus. They hope to encourage as many people to use alternative transportation to reduce employee parking needs.

I bet some commuter will be a little startled the first time they see s helicopter land next to them. So does this mean they can get another crane to start the hotel?

Most likely. They have closed down the other pads...MTO wrote:I bet some commuter will be a little startled the first time they see s helicopter land next to them. So does this mean they can get another crane to start the hotel?
Re: Nebraska Medicine
Currently none of the helipads are closed. The new new offsite helipad was quickly done to give another option due to all the cranes until the hotel starts. It will be used used by all helicopters coming to NeMed except for the one that sits on its roof. They will continue to operate from there unless the cancer center construction begins to interfere with them. As of yesterday, there was no new info on when the hotel will start.
Re: Nebraska Medicine
Friday around 10:30 am there was one helicopter on the Roof when I flew by.
Saturday around 4:00 pm there was one helicopter on the ground, off to the side of the new helipad, but still inside the fence area. There was no crew around for this helicopter.
Not sure how many helicopters they will try to land at the new pad at once, but seeing the one off to the side, it appeared they could fit several.
My helicopter was completely impressed with all the construction he saw when we circled the hospital.
Myself, it was fun too see the new helipad for the first time from a helicopter. I hadn't been by there since they built it.

Here's a random stand-off shot for those who don't get to see this twenty times a day. I'm still amazed by the mass of the new building.

Pretty sure they still have another level to go too.
Re: Nebraska Medicine
Not sure if it's ever been covered but what's up with the Kiewit fence around the building just south of the Midwest iCare clinic? The building is on the north east corner of 44th and Douglas.

Down to 4 cranes on campus. The pharmacy school building's crane is gone.
Re: Nebraska Medicine
With the new help pad and a crane gone will we see the hotel begin this year. The 42nd street site.

Re: Nebraska Medicine
Probably will not see the hotel start till next year. They want to try to get at least one of the cancer center cranes down before they put the one up for the hotel. Both cranes are schedule to come down 04/16.
