Site prep requires no tower crane and this site will need plenty of prep work.

Wow that's way longer than I thought those would be up. They might want to get the parking garage done before they tear out that lot too.

My neighborhood (Morton Meadows) had a meeting on Tuesday (which I couldn't make). One of the topics on the agenda was someone from UNMC discussing a viaduct connecting Leavenworth to UNMC. A quick google search returned this link, http://app1.unmc.edu/PublicAffairs/Toda ... ring-2.pdf, but that's all I could find. Does anyone know anything more?
Thinking there's not a whole lot to say anymore now that people listen & she has to make sense.

To be honest drones shouldn't be for sale to everyone, too many close calls with planes latley.

KETV had a story about the cancer center. They are installing a special beam signed by people across Nebraska that represents how cancer effects so many. Also mentioned: there will be about 4,000 jobs created and each floor will be dedicated for the major types of cancer.

The Research tower is nominally 10 floors, and the Clinical wing is nominally 8 floors, but there are stair core roofs above both, and the clinical side of the building has some additional levels for access to the Helideck.

Is that 4000 new jobs number correct? I assume it is since it was on TV. That has to be the biggest lump job number for any project in the area for a long time. The building looks awesome but to me the 4000 number is much bigger news. I would love to see a breakdown of where those people are coming from? Transferring in vs new to area. Is that number big enough to be part of why local housing prices are going up? Lot of questions in there but thats just huge news for the area.

So way back when the iClinic had a 10 mili grant for a four bed outpatient sergical suite in their current building. Which of course metastasized into this big monster of an all purpose outpatient center we have now. Which is also why the iClinics finished product is a fraction of origional plan as seen from the renders that show it without that large lawn to its west. And also there is a ground level enclosed walkway planned from the iClinic to what I assume the outpatient building because the pharmacy school is a bit further. I asked about the potential closing(s) of Jones or 40th because how else would that happen and the physician wasn't sure about the streets but he was quite sure there wouldn't be a tunnel.

The outpatient center really dwarfs the eye institute. I almost wonder if they could go back if they would have tried to use that land more efficiently with some parking beneath the building considering the land crunch they are running into.

I just talked to a Board member of the MMI - and she said they were staying put, they have been renovating offices but have no plans on moving anywhere.

Good land and location for a new hospital tower should one be needed (cough, cough VA). Too valuable as MMI/JP Lord School to replace for non-essential building.

I just talked with Dr. Ward Chambers of UNMC and he was talking about a soon to be built Virtual Reality simulation building where you can actually hold a heart and open it up and practice surgery... It will be located where the former parking garage was on the SE corner of 42nd and Emile.

They way he described it was really like you see on those CSI episodes...

If it's the same tech I've seen demode the system has force feedback to ad to the realism. I wonder if they'll be able to perform remote surgeries.

The surgeons use the VR system on one end and robots synced up on the other with live video. I don't think it's something institutes put much effort into however. I just brought it up because they'd have half the setup in place and UNMC is a large world class hospital..

He said theoretically they could, it has been done Trans-Atlantic...
But it didn't sound like it would be close to its primary use...

I could be wrong, or crazy or both, but I think they are making 4 floors because the Feds approved them for the biocontainment facility.

That should fit pretty well in that part of the campus.
