The only thing better about metal framing is its recyclability. Wood is much more workable and versatile even in this day and age.

And economical. Steel stud construction is generally only used over wood when necessitated by fire code.

When you factor in the carbon life cyle of wood, it's sustainability is actually pretty good.

Did I hear somewhere that one of the reasons they were going with wood was that it was less of a load factor on the existing structure?
My old signature got too old. So old it was getting almost as old me as me. Yeah, it was up there in years.

I'm not sure I have ever seen a celebrity flag embellished last wooden board being hoisted at a construction site before. Have we sunk that low?

I know that if I had invested/borrowed the millions put into this project, I just might want to celebrate the final beam too regardless of whether or not others were impressed.

Its a great accomplishment. Who cares what the beam is made of. They are overdeveloping a long abandoned old structure on a historic but nearly abandoned street in the heard of the CBD. Good for them!

I was down at the Limelight for a little while today. They have the windows in for part of the ground floor retail. They are set in about 10' behind the front of the building along the west side.

With some huge supports in front of the windows, kind of hides it from the street.

Yeah, but I think it will look better than bumping it out like it was before.

I know, warmer weather got me back out shooting again. I think I stopped after the GLM opened and I stopped updating that thread.

BTW, does anyone know it they are going to replace the bottom brick (if that is what it is), it would really update it's look!

I actually work for Seldin Company, and often see Omaha Forums "pop up" when we are working on our marketing efforts. I couldn't resist becoming a member, and putting in my 2 cents. If you have any questions about any of our projects, don't hesitate to ask. Limelight is going to be a really cool project in downtown Omaha. We are really excited to get construction completed, and start moving residents in. We also recently began leasing the Meyer Raapke Building. Its also a great project that is just wrapping up construction. If you know anyone looking for an apartment send them our way! I will try and post some "insider pictures" time to time. - Brandon

Welcome to the forums Brandon. I know a few of us follow your Facebook page to see what is new (congrats on the NAHMA). If you know of any projects coming along let us know, especially if you can get us in on an early tour :;):

What's the plan for that safe anyways? I always mean to ask when I am there and then never do. Its a decent size, but I am not really sure what you could do with it.

I really like what Kutak Rock has done with the old vault in the Omaha Building.

Here is a photo I shot a while back. I really wish I had some lights with me to get a better shot inside.

And you bring me to my initial point, which I did not directly come out and state it. When I first wrote the post, there were many fires happening with apartment buildings in and around our wonderful city. I would just assume they would read the newspapers and would have made a wiser decision (concerning fires) about using wood on a building downtown which is higher than the "standard 3 or 4 floor apartment buildings.

The finishes are going in on the lower floors. I think the second floor (the original building) is way cooler than the 3 new floors on top. Super high clings and a lot of the old building character.

The Apartment entrance is also in now and I didn't eve recognize it. It looks great.

Photos to come later.

You weren't kidding Brad. Those units in the old structure are filled with character. Whatever unit shots 6 and 7 are in look like one of the most unique spaces downtown.
