Re: Burlington Postal Annex (across from station)
So much to like about this project:
99K SF of office added DT
Over 100 workers will move in day one with an anchor tenant secured
Solar array and wind turbines on the roof
Restaurant space on 10th
Space for startups that is needed with Mastercraft about to fill up

Long over due, this project looks amazing.
Re: Burlington Postal Annex (across from station)
Wow, this is going to be a great project! Glad to see something other than residential going in there. (not that there is anything wrong with residential) We need to keep a good mix of uses in the area. Boyd Jones is a good solid firm with deep Omaha roots.
I thought I saw somewhere that BVH is the Architect on this...could be wrong. (same architect as Corvina at 9th & Jones)

Re: Burlington Postal Annex (across from station)
Nice to see the building being reused. I am glad it wasn't torn down for something new. Not a lot of innovative or distictive new architecture is being built in Omaha, the reused buildings give us a lot of flavor that is otherwise missing.
Re: Burlington Postal Annex (across from station)
I could see this and the station win awards for what they're doing.

I am glad that their time frame isn't drawn out either. The article stated that it would be completed by late 2016, which is only 18 months away. Sometimes these projects seem to drag on for years. Thankfully with the corporate presence, the space will need to be completed so they can move in.

I did not realize Resumo had purchased this lot also, which was rezoned to CBD.
I guess it will be used for parking? Anyone know if this is level ground?

Re: Burlington Postal Annex (across from station)
Need to figure out where I think I saw this. Pretty sure there was going to be some structured parking on this land.
Re: Burlington Postal Annex (across from station)
Using streetview on Google maps it looks to be mostly flat at the same elevation as the railroad tracks. There must be some sizable terraces in the land between the elevation of Mason street and the railroad tracks.

Thanks, I just couldn't image the layout of that land last night. I couldn't figure out where that slope up begins in this area...daveoma wrote:Using streetview on Google maps it looks to be mostly flat at the same elevation as the railroad tracks. Re: Burlington Postal Annex (across from station)
That parcel (which will be a parking lot) is at the track level. There is a huge elevation change to the track level from Mason Street (around 35'), so there will be a [steep!] ramp going down the hill off of the southwest corner of the building. The tentative plan is for a single level elevated parking deck above the surface parking. The lowest level of the building will also have parking.
Thinking there's not a whole lot to say anymore now that people listen & she has to make sense.

Re: Burlington Postal Annex (across from station)
I heard that the owners of this project have asked the Durham Museum about using their parking space for their patrons. So now the Durham is looking into their own parking situation. Councilmember Chris Jerram has the Durham in his district as well as the Holland. I just missed the opportunity to ask him about parking...
Re: Burlington Postal Annex (across from station)
Why would the developers need parking at the Durham if they're planning on building a new parking garage, especially when the Durham's parking garage is over a block away?Coyote wrote:I heard that the owners of this project have asked the Durham Museum about using their parking space for their patrons. Re: Burlington Postal Annex (across from station)
Could still be a crunch. This is a far more realistic parking issue than the one further north.

Can't wait to see construction start on this one. Like I mentioned before, this building is going to look much nicer once the windows are replaced.

Electrical and pluming permits were issued this week. Hope this gets going this month.

Earlier newspaper article said they hope to move in by late 2016. They would have to really fly to even have a chance at that.MTO wrote:This ones sure is slow going.

Construction underway at Rail and Commerce Building
few from the view inside:
Developer Jon Crane said the project should be complete by summer 2017. It will include space for offices, including Crane's company, Boyd Jones. There will also be co-working space for small businesses and a street-level restaurant.

There are earth movers behind the building and down near the train tracks.
Re: Burlington Postal Annex (across from station)
I was glad to hear in the KETV report that they are going to replace the windows with new energy-efficient versions with the same look. The views of the downtown skyline out of that building are going to be fantastic.

Yes, the view will look amazing. Nothing able to build in front of it either with the tracks right there.GetUrban wrote:I was glad to hear in the KETV report that they are going to replace the windows with new energy-efficient versions with the same look. Did you get an update shot from the 10th street bridge? That's where the impressive view is right now...

It was too late in the day (sunlight) for a good pic...
Re: Burlington Postal Annex (across from station)
They must have been in there last night. I walked by on the bridge and it was lit up around midnight.

Very excited about this project. I live very near and am hoping to get some insight as to what restaraunt or bar is going to go on the ground floor? Any inside information to share?

I may be totally wrong at this hour, but, wasn't Benson Brewery going to put a tap room or even part of their brewery there?CatfishBlack wrote:Very excited about this project.
