If we are thinking of the same "tenant" they had one of their vehicles down there when I drove by today.  I'd expect to see news on this soon.

I will try to post a photo later, but the roof is off of the Burlington Station, looking through the windows on west end, you could see right up through where the roof was.

Not much has changed on the exterior in a while. They still seem to be working on the roof.

A couple weeks ago they started building a new deck on the west side of the building between the station and 10th St.

Now it appears they're finally doing restoration work on the exterior of the building.

I did end up calling the station to see about Amtrak occupying some of the building, but I was told there wouldn't be any room for them.

It is too bad that Amtrak isn't part of the project.
If anyone has the opportunity, I recommend taking a look at what Denver has accomplished with the Union Station here. I am happy to see the Burlington station be restored and put to good use but what they did with a similar structure here is remarkable.

I was just in Denver and Union Station there is great with the public transit (light rail, bus and Amtrak), however I wasn't too impressed with the inside of the building. I thought the design and restaurants and hotel were great but the inside didn't have that much character other than a few big light fixtures. I think the Durham and Burlington stations in Omaha look much better inside. I do think that Union Station in Denver is beautiful on the outside though.

Isn't Denver's union station way large? I have never been in it, but from the outside it appears much larger.

Yah it is pretty large, but the picture above is from the main section of the terminal. Here is one of the overall site:

Wonder what those two rough-stone archways are in MTO's second picture. They're across the "moat" from the station. Any ideas?

They started building a foundation under that beam (Which still says "Baggage Room" on the east side). I am guessing this area will bee fenced in or enclosed in some way. I am sure they could use that area for a number of things.

Looks like some new windows have been put into the Burlington station. Many of the old windows are also still there. I'm not sure if they're trying to keep as many old windows is the can or if they're trying to seal up the building for winter. Looks like they're also ready to pour some concrete on the lowest level.

I was near the former station the other day and noticed that there were lights on, illuminating the main floor. It was pretty cool to see the building lit up.

Not sure if I should put this in the Durham Thread or the Burlington Station Thread.....

SOmething I have been wondering for the past few months. In the time since Burlington Station closed the inside of the main waiting room on the second floor was almost completely gutted, and the decorative plaster (rosette design) ceiling was destroyed. Is KETV having the original ceiling recreated (as was done at KC UnioN Station), or are they putting in a "modern" ceiling?

Also... I know alot of the marble and chandeliers and other fixtures were sold off when the building was gutted. Has KETV had researchers out there searching for the original stuff? Will the grand hall look as it did the day the station closed?

I know that Ontrak Development, the owner before KETV, had found a few of the original piece. However KETV has been very tight lipped about the project.

You are absolutely correct about them being tight-lipped. Since the first pictures they published when they bought it, they haven't said boo to a cuckoo bird about what the interior is going to look like

I would have to look back for a quote... But I believe they were remodeling specifically so that areas would be open to public especially the 'postcard' view.

My take on it is this. KETV is basically building Omaha a nice train station. In 20 years rail travel will probably be in vogue again, as it always has been in Europe, and we're going to need a station. The building was in bad enough shape that if someone hadn't gone in now, it would never have happened.

Today's business world is different than that of the past. People don't build buildings and stay in them for 50 years. People in today's crazy-fast world work on projects, utilize them for five or ten years, and then move on to another huge project. That's just the world we live in. KETV will probably use their state of the art studio for a decade or so, then say that their needs have changed, and then move on...

Leaving Omaha with a beautiful train station. As I view it KETV is kind of like putting the train station in a CD, a long term investment account. It's a way of keeping it safely mothballed... I emphasize SAFELY mothballed, until it's ready to be used again

No way. KETV isn't going to be pouring tens of millions of dollars into this to leave in a decade.

I agree. I think if rail is going to become a big thing again, Omaha will build a new station where the current one is. It's actually amazing how terrible our station is compared to smaller cities.

yeah, it kind of resembles an old Wenchel's donuts, for an obscure reference. (The interior)

As far as this project, it's probably my favorite since the first national tower. Although I think KETV broadcasting is some of the cheesiest windbag sh*t I've ever seen, they have a great project going. Maybe they can stick with development?

At least they aren't producing cringe inducing sketch comedies like WOWT on Saturday nights.
