If it is lit up like that every night, it is going to look amazing when driving south on 10th St. Glad to have you back, Burlington. Thanks KETV!!!

The paint color match on the repaired portions of the facade isn't even close......

Give it a few years. It's hard to get the impression of years of weathering and smog in a paint color.

Based on how carefully it was painted near the existing stone I don't think it's a base. They should have gone darker, similar to what they painted the new steel on the balcony and canopy, because over time the color will fade and get lighter, and that, combined with dirt/aging would have been a much better match. The lighter color they have now is just going to get lighter over time. I spent a couple years working for an architecture/engineering firm in Chicago that does a lot of facade repair work on historic buildings, and we would go so far as to perform accelerated weather testing on mockups to find a color that matched. Plus, when the facade is wet, the painted portion is going to stand out like a sore thumb because it isn't porous like the stone.

I could be wrong about this being the final color, and maybe it is just a primer, but I don't think so. I hope I'm wrong. I'd hate to see all this effort go into the facade only to get lazy with the color match.

I'm still hoping there's SOMEway that Amtrak could utilize this - at least have the boarding section be in front of the station.

They do board right in front of it.

The #5 (Westbound), the Locomotives are parked near 12th street and the train stretches all the way back to 8th Street
The #6 (Eastbound), the Locomotives park near 8th street and the train stretches all the back to about 12th street.

Right on. I've never been on Amtrak from the Omaha station, so I just figured it was all done east of Burlington. Good deal, then!

I was told by someone at LAD that the idea of providing space for Amtrak came up right off the bat and was quickly shot down by Hearst.

Seriously? Should I be surprised at that? Really, I want to know.

I was hoping they would. Even with the place redone and occupied, an indoor area such as a coffee shop or C-store would be nice there for people boarding and departing, even if it's just a place to get out of the weather.

I'm all for having a decent amtrak station, but that lower level is basically their newsroom and studio. I don't think anyone should be surprised that Hearst/KETV don't want an actual train station in their train station.

Part of their special on tv talked about how much they had to do to try and soundproof the building due to the trains and being on live tv. There was no way this vuildong would have worked as an Amtrak and studio.

It's one of the best historic vuildong restorations I've seen in a long time.

Andy Kendeigh on Sharp & Benning this morning said in 3 weeks/end of October they are supposed to start doing shows from there.

He starts talking about the new station at the 10:50 mark from Seg 10 if anyone wants to listen

Hey, appreciate the info!

On another note, would anyone happen to know how the repair work on the North facing facade is coming along? Have been a bit worried since seeing the above photos.

Walked around the Burlington station tonight and Wow, its fenced off like a prison! All the fencing that was along 10th street that was chest high is now 8' tall and the parking lot will be gated off. Don't get me wrong, its awesome that they restored this awesome building, but all the fence is overkill... Trying to enjoy a historic old building through "the bars" is not nearly as satisfying...

Dang that place is attractive. Brad your photos do the beauty of the building justice!

I am incredibly happy to see the building cleaned up and put to use, but seeing pictures like that and seeing what happened with Denver's Union Station give me the biggest "what if" ever. Kudos to KETV for taking a part of the community though.
