nice looking little store; i hope they are able to keep enough business to stay open.  I've got a feeling that in about 2 years the old market/downtown is going to be booming.

They have a whole section with domestics, imports (from Japan too), as well as a wide selection of whiskeys and foo foo drink mixes.

what are some of their more unique items that you can't get at a regular chain market?

They don't really have too many outrageously crazy items. That's why I like it. I don't need to buy Himalayan Yak Hagiss or chilled monkey brains. I just want some milk, macaroni, and some chicken. It's like a small Baker's really. It's pretty conventional and I think that's why it's doing well.

I don't know if such a thing exists anywhere other than SUPER niche markets.  The big chains are carrying a lot of specialty items these days to stem to flood away to the Whole Foods of the world.

Patrick's isn't trying to set itself up as a specialty shop.  It's just a good market.  The only thing I would consider truly special about it is its location.  The prices are just a teensie bit higher than you would expect at most grocery stores, but not even remotely higher to the point where I would get in the car to go someplace else to save $5 on a $100 grocery tab - especially now that it's only two blocks from my door!  There's also nothing about it that would make someone hop in the car to drive downtown.

It's a grocery store, folks.  And its downtown.

From what the pictures show it reminds me a bit of the size, layout, and selection of a Fairway store.  That would be the Iowa based Fairway with a few stores in the area.   All in all looks nice and is a great ++++ to the DT market.

One other observation: I haven't been back to Cubbie's since Patrick's opened. However I did stop in there last week while patrick's was closed. Patrick's prices were much more in line with what you would expect to pay at Baker's or a big chain store.

the black bean salsa they have that's made in papillion is the bomb, i grab a jar or two every time i go in.  also get the beliza acai sorbet (yeah, i like healthy alternatives)  I've been able to find some of the items i used to get at wild oats there.  i keep bragging to people that we finally got a grocery store downtown.

As small a place as it is in the downtown development scene, it's RAMIFICATIONS for downtown development are huge!  I can't get over what a great little market this is!

Thanks for the pictures!

Apparently the building two doors down from Patrick's (1410) is getting an office makeover... Anyone know anything?
