May be its the Hole in front of it that makes it looks so bad at TD Ameritrade? Â Looking at Texas and St Louis, they both seem to blend in so much better with the hill.cp jay 07 wrote:It is the batters eye and it is there for a reason. I remember they tried trees and a glossier better looking paing in the 1st year and the complaints from the batters was they were losing track of the balls. Every baseball stadium has to have one basically and unless it is Texas or St. Louis where they have a hill they all look like sh!t.

Nothing like a $126 million dollar stadium with a $1500 "shed" in the outfield... That's gotta go.
The Batter's Eye at Comerica Park, for example, has neat vines and even a fountain on top. While I don't think a fountain on top is anything beyond a hilarious proposition, I wouldn't mind it being more than just a big green block. I'm not suggesting it be a FABULOUS rainbow colored piece of artwork, but just something other than a big green block.

Taken from a guideline document from MLB
Batter’s Eye
One of the key components of the outfield is the size and location of the batter’s eye. The batter’s eye is what the batter sees behind the pitcher.
This area must be one consistent, dark color, preferably black, and is normally 60 feet wide and 30 feet high. It is generally a metal structure covered in wind screen material. The wind screen material is made with a solid mesh-like material which allows some air to flow through it.

I think you could move the fences in in a way that would look ok, and might even give that place some character. Â If anything there should be more bombs at CWS, not less. Â And the place is so bland right now it could be an opportunity. Â
A MS guy last night hit a big ball that Im pretty sure he thought might make it out and it wasnt even very close. Â Judging by his stature he would know such things. Â
Remember, chics dig the long ball...

The recent World Herald article on the lack of scoring said it would be too costly to move the fences in. Â I think out best hope is that they switch to all ball that would travel farther like the use in pro baseball due to the stitching.cdub wrote:I think you could move the fences in in a way that would look ok, and might even give that place some character. But also - the average game in the CWS lasted 3:14 - how can they speed up the game?

Both great photos, but I really love the 2nd one. Â Quick question....in the first picture, isn't the red panels of lights supposed to be all lit up? Â It looked like some of the lights weren't working during the CWS. Â I thought that I have been by there before and the entire panel was lit up with light.
I didn't really pay attention. Â However I know that sometimes thinks don't look very bright because the stadium lights are so bright.

They were putting the glass back up behind the sculpture this morning. I wasn't aware they took it down, do they do that for the winter?

It would be pretty alright and normal for a drunk kid to sneak in there to throw a football or do some batting. But to go in there and trash the place. Disrespect.

It's much better to have this kind of crime in the headlines than rape and murder. As long as they're not ruining works of art or precious artifacts it's not tragic.Athomsfere wrote:Omaha: Were people get drunk and break into attractions...?

Eh. Let's not kid ourselves Omaha is still seeing the same rape and murder and it is in the news. It just isn't on the front page... Breaking into TD and smashing stuff really is minor, but our national image is going to be what? Women bite by tiger, kids smashing TVs at the "CWS stadium".

Re: TD Ameritrade Park Omaha
It's interesting to see this happen. Selling alcohol has been discussed for years, same as it has for football games at Memorial Stadium. It's getting harder and harder to compete against giant screen tvs, sports bars, fully stocked basement bars, etc.
Not sure how well $8 beers in long concession lines stems that tide, but something needs to be done. The demand for things like Nebraska football and CWS is getting more and more difficult to sustain as the prices go up and the in home/bar experience gets better and better.
20 years ago when I hd a 27 inch tube tv, I would never have thought it would make more sense to stay at home and watch a game. More and more, that's my preferred method of watching sports.

From the March Minutes:
Chairman Bradford noted that MECA
needs to create a substantial structure to offer shade in the general admission concessions area which
would also work to alleviate the shaded area of the concourse from being overcrowded. Mr. Dixon will
look into a solution.

I am sure they will want to keep it from obstructing views of downtown as well.
I have never thought that the concourse is overly crowded. Usually you are able to stand on the concourse right behind home plate with not much of a problem.
