I haven't seen a straight on shot of what was there, but between that quarter block and immediately to the north (fire station) there was definitely some old building stock lost somewhere along the line. Â The fire state was a hotel at some point, maybe 4 stories? Â You can find it in the background of some early photos of Kimball Laundry, before the 5th floor was added.
You should see what used to be on what is now Patrick's parking lot:

That is so depressing, and even more depressing within the last decade we tore down the UP building for nothin'.Big E wrote:I haven't seen a straight on shot of what was there, but between that quarter block and immediately to the north (fire station) there was definitely some old building stock lost somewhere along the line. But hey, someone's commute will be shorter now.A Mayan pyramid that has stood for 2,300 years in Belize has been reduced to rubble, apparently to make fill for roads.
Local media in the Central American country of 334,000 people report the temple at the Noh Mul site in northern Belize was largely torn down by backhoes and bulldozers last week.
...
The limestone is quality material used to upgrade local roads, and it's prized by contractors, local opposition legislator John Briceno told CTV3 News.
"The Mayas use good material to build their temples, and these temples are close to (the village of) Douglas so that means that they have to use less diesel, less wear and tear; they can do more trips per day, and at the end of the day they can make more money," CTV3 quotes Briceno as saying.
Stable genius.

New development to include 75 apartments at 15th, Jackson
Construction has begun on a nearly $14 million new development in downtown Omaha at 15th and Jackson Streets that will include four floors of apartments, two floors of parking and one retail bay.
The plan is for 75 one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments, some of which will feature dens, that will rent from $1,100 to $1,800 a month; 108 covered, heated parking stalls for residents and residents of neighboring buildings; and a 2,600-square-foot retail space.
Moylan said he has no confirmed retail tenant yet, but he hopes to lure a trainer or exercise facility to the space. With the location and parking, a trainer “would do well and it would be an enhanced amenity for our building,” Moylan said.
The property on the southwest corner of 15th and Jackson was formerly a surface parking lot. Construction crews this week were removing basement walls, floors and foundation left from a building that once stood there.
“Whenever you're doing downtown construction, you never really know what's beneath the surface of a parking lot,” Moylan said. “In our case, it was plenty.”

Thanks for the photo update, you have a great vantage point of this project....looking forward to many more updates. Â On a side note, I would hate to live in the building directly to the south of this project and have great views now but soon will be starring into a building. Â From our standpoint though, much much better than another parking lot in downtown Omaha.
Is "1501 Jackson" the official name for this project?
