Won't we know for sure by 12/31/16 if this project is happening or not? I believe the incentives the city offered were tied to it starting before 2017.

Fairytail Costumes has closed its doors in the mall. Everything is being auctioned off this weekend.

Inside is pretty bleak. I went to Barnes and Noble there a week ago and looked down towards Target and did not notice anything open between them.

Hopefully we see some activity soon.

I was in there a few weeks ago. There is a store on the south side a few doors down from Barnes and Noble that is open. There is also a discount retailer in the space that used to be occupied by Old Navy. And the Czech musuem is in the space where Chilis used to be. Not much else open but there are a few.

This just came out on SPN yesterday, but it looks like the small tech company SkyVue that used to be located in A/V is working out of Crossroads right now.

I wondered what happened to SkyVu. Which of their games was on Billboards last year? Battle Bears?

Yeah. This article is the one I referenced, tells about their struggles and repositioning in the market.

This is probably old news but I was at Target Crossroads Monday. You can no longer enter the mall from the Target store.

Don't know if that is preparation for the development starting before the end of the year or Target does not feel the hassle is worth it to keep that door open. I imagine that was a bit of a security issue at times.

Probably sick of product leaking out that door. You wonder when Target starts getting anxious about the performance of that store. Sure, business is probably okay but would certainly be better if the rest of the property were improved. IMO, Target loses money every year Crossroads sits and rots.

As long as they're making money at that location (they are).. they most likely could care less if Crossroads sits and rots...

I remember the mayor saying she expected a press conference by the end of the year about this place. Somebody else on here also mentioned they thought the incentives expired if this thing wasn't inked by the end of the year. Anyone heard anything further?

No doubt business would be better if the property was improved, but I don't see any signs of that location struggling in the least. Target doesn't seem concerned either; they've just done some minor remodeling in Starbucks, the grocery area, and by adding self-checkout lanes.

Yeah I wish they had done a Super Target at that location too. Whether or not they are bringing in enough money to hold up until the new development is ready or making money, no way Target prefers the current stagnation with Crossroads.

Not surprised at all, granted, like the Capitol District, these huge projects take time to get all the pieces together, but I feel that the city has done everything they can and the developer just keeps dropping the ball.

I also like how in the article Krejci blames the delay on the impending winter weather. Hmm, let me see, every year has 4 seasons in Omaha and that never changes. Its not like it was some unforeseeable circumstance causing a delay.

I believe this is mentioned in the OWH article posted above, but she says she's willing to extend the incentives into the new year. It sounded like she was prepared to wait as long as it takes.

I'd like to see the Mayor set a true deadline. I just don't see this happening under the current group. I think they still hold hope of additional incentives that aren't coming.

I didn't look back to see when this whole fiasco started but here in Detroit the Ilitch family who own Little Caesars, the Detroit Tigers & the Detroit Red Wings proposed, financed, reached agreement with the city and will finish an arena and surrounding residential, office and retail district within about 3 years, in the near downtown area of Detroit.

Crossroads is arguably sitting on one of the most valuable pieces of real estate in Omaha. These guys have had great success with the Nebraska Crossing Mall. They don't seem like idiots. So what's the problem? This whole thing looks to someone far away like a huge joke.

That's one of the biggest differences between Omaha & Detroit. I highly doubt that any of the big three car makers would ever move. Same with Illitch. Dan Gilbert has acquired 80 buildings downtown & brought his whole empire too, Quicken Loans, etc. He also recruited tons of other companies downtown. His buildings are full. Thousands of employees brought downtown. With that, retail & housing. You wouldn't believe what is going on in downtown Detroit. Now the Pistons are moving back so Detroit will be the only city with all four pro sports teams playing downtown.

If you would have told me that ConAgra & Cabela's would be leaving Nebraska I'd have said you were crazy. Omaha just doesn't have anyone of any size who is absolutely committed to the city. Yes, First National & maybe Mutual, and what Mutual has done is great. But for downtown to really break out it needs a Gilbert or an Illitch, albeit smaller. Someone with lots of passion & money & employees who says screw the free parking in the suburbs I'm moving 1,000 employees downtown.

These guys did not have the same kind of leverage they had with the Outlet Mall (competing proposal from La Vista with Cordish).

What's going on now in Detroit is great. Much better than what they went through with the casino's (and how they were supposed to end up on the riverfront).

I'm happy here, but I would be pretty happy in Grosse Pointe overlooking Lake St Clair. Minutes from downtown with 4 pro sports and not too far from 2 major Big 10 schools. Detroit gets a bum wrap. My college roommate started interning at GM in the late 80's then went to work for them in the 90's. Been fascinating watching Detroit evolve. It's pretty cool how much investment has been brought to their downtown. GM, the Illitches and Dan Gilbert have been fantastic corporate citizens.

My first reaction to the dumpster comment is "Ok, more for me".

Truthfully there are things I miss about Omaha but having lived in the Detroit area for over 8 years now I do like it here. The people are very friendly and living in a metro with well over 4 million there are things here that Omaha just doesn't have. For example, from here there over 100 domestic non stops and a couple of dozen international non stops. My wife just went to visit her father in Fort Lauderdale and we got her a ticket on Spirit for less than $100 round trip non stop. There are all four pro sports teams with amazing venues. The food is amazing with thousands of choices, including a ton of locally owned places. My wife would tell you that the shopping is head & shoulders better than Omaha. Downtown is not only coming back but is actually back. The transportation system is great and we can get from our house to pretty much anywhere in a half hour or less, including downtown. We've been downtown with our kids at night and have no qualms about it. Living near the Great Lakes is another big plus.

Is there a lot of crime? Yep, in some areas. However, and this is a big however, we have friends who live in the city and we've never had any problems when we visit them. Yes, Detroit has a lot of problems with blight and crime but the city is actually taking steps to address them. I'd say that Detroit is doing more for blight than Omaha is on the north side, from what I've read.

As I said there are things I miss about Omaha, having grown up there & spent my first 50 years there. But I've come to appreciate the advantages of living in a much larger city. You don't want to live here? That's fine. Everyone should live where they want and are comfortable. We moved here for some very specific reasons. Personally I'd never want to live in Chicago or New York. Too big and too much traffic. That's just me. Detroit has a bad rep and some of that is earned, some is not. I would say this. Linkin5? Come visit. I'll show you around. That goes for any of you. When you go home you'll have a different opinion of Detroit than you came with.

Here's Lake St Claire that Greg talked about:
