Hy-Vee opens its first Omaha Market Cafe

Janice Podsada: Omaha World Herald wrote:The restaurant and bar, which seats 164, is the state's second Hy-Vee Market Cafe. A smaller Market Cafe that seats 120 opened last November at the Plattsmouth Hy-Vee.

Diners also can enjoy free Wi-Fi and a dozen HD televisions scattered throughout the dining room.

I walked past it on my way home from Halleck last night. I only saw one TV, but it had a baseball game on, and there were several people watching, tinted windows though, so you couldn't see much... I didn't know what it was till I read this article. Also on the other side of the store, they still have Asian Express, and Italian Express signs that say coming March 2014...

They are almost done with the Applewood store. They just have the Health Food area remaining, AND the liquor department is left for last. Sizing that department up, it doesn't look very large, and when talking to its manager, its not going to be anything above average. Stony Brook is laughing.

I used to shop here twice a week years ago when I lived in La Vista. For the past few months this place has received a complete make over and it is nothing like the old place. I don't even know where to begin on the differences. The Meat counter, the Seafood counter, the fresh cooked meals, the cafeteria, the Health Food section are all top notch. They have a new Wine & Spirits department, but they could have made this so much better, it takes away from the new experience. I went in there and the lady behind the counter never even recognized my presence, she was content on reading her monitor instead. Even if I had asked her about beer, though, I was quite confident she would have no idea what an IPA was. This is so disappointing, since I would have given this place 5 stars if not for this fatal flaw.

I will have to show my wife these pictures. When we lived in Ralston, she used to love shopping at this HyVee since it reminded her of the smaller Hyvee in her hometown.

Looks like they will tear down the Hy-Vee Gas at Applewood, haven't seen what they plan to replace it with...

I thought that the gas station was just going to be rebuilt.

Yes, I should have said I have yet to see the design of its replacement.
I am hoping it will have easier access which doesn't back up 96th St traffic turning into the station...

That station has to be one of the first Hyvee gas stations that were built, it's so outdated and small.

I don't think they even built it. I think they just took over an old Amoco Station.

You are correct. I got my vehicles washed in the car wash there for 1 dollar hundreds of times. It was one of the last 1 dollar washes around. You would pop your 4 quarters in at the pay box and a recording would come over the speaker " Welcome to Bucky's Amoco blah blah blah......

If memory serves me, the gas station was originally an Anderson BP/Amoco. Alot of his stations were designed like this, the one 140th & West Center is like this one

I wondered where that was at. I can see it from my house. It was going last night too.
