SAC Federal Credit Union said Monday it plans to build a $20 million, four-story headquarters on the hilly property southeast of 72nd Street and Nebraska Highway 370 in Papillion, the start of what may become an office park at the already-busy corner.
Construction would start in late summer, with occupancy in 2014. SAC Federal purchased five acres of land from a private owner and signed an agreement to buy five acres from the City of
Papillion, subject to approval by the Papillion City Council.
The credit union's present headquarters near 39th Street and Highway 370 may be sold, although a credit union office likely would remain.
The new 90,000-square-foot building would have a first-floor branch office, a community meeting room and space for 150 employees, many of whom now work in various offices around the area.
"Having all of our corporate functions in one area will reduce our overall costs and improve our internal communications and member services," she said.
The credit union has grown substantially since it moved into the Bellevue headquarters in 1980, expanding its geographic membership area and increasing its assets to $525 million.
SAC has really upped their design standards recently. Â This building looks really nice and their branch in North Omaha is one of my favorite renovations.
Amid hoopla including remarks by the Nebraska governor, the $601 million SAC Federal Credit Union, the state’s largest, broke ground Tuesday on a new $20 million corporate headquarters in the Omaha suburb of Papillion.

SAC Federal Credit Union, Leo A Daly and MCL Construction marked their progress in the construction of a new credit union headquarters with a beam-signing and topping-off ceremony Thursday in Papillion.
The $20 million project is expected to be completed in 2014, with move-in around March.
The 90,000-square-foot, four-story building at 72nd Street and Nebraska Highway 370 will have a branch office, space for up to 150 employees, a community meeting room and, outside, two ponds and green space.
Has anyone seen how far this project is coming along? I think the last time I was out in that area was almost 18 months ago, and it's far out of my way so I haven't had a chance to see it yet... Â :(

I remember working as a painter in the apartment complex shown in that picture on the other side of 370 in 2004 and I can't believe that this is the same area! There was quite literally nothing out there and at the time they were just beginning to grade dirt before building Shadow Lake Mall. Crazy how much it has developed out that way considering its on the very edge of the city!

I actually like this development outside of Omaha. One thing that kind of impressed me when driving through KC and Minneapolis was that they had large commercial developments scattered throughout the city.

Yes I too was definitely impressed with the Corporate buildings that in Omaha we would be gushing over that are just plopped down next to a random interstate in KC. Honestly KC has a seriously impressive skyline for how big of a city it is.. although no skyline impresses me anymore after living in NYC for 3+ years but for being in the midwest KC rocks it big time.

Agreed, although I am more partial to Minneapolis' skyline.

As of last week, the glass is about half installed.
This turned out to work very nicely on that corner. Glad that someone took the time and money to level it out and develop it. There is a ton of land off of 370 that could be used much the same.
