Last week they started some new utility or sewer work just east of the Jimmy Johns. It is could be for the new hotel going in or this complex.

On a side note, is this still going to be called the "Omaha" Multisports Complex?

I don't think they've name it yet. I bet they sell the rights. Scheel's paid for the naming rights of a youth complex in Overland Park. Could see them doing it here too.

Was out there today looking at some of the sewer pipes for the hotel. When we were there, I noticed a couple trucks out on the sod farm where the multi sports complex will be built. They didn't have any logos on them.

Could they be for the sod operations or has that stopped already?

Gotcha, thanks. Surprised there's another hotel going in that's five all together.

I was told the reason there are usually so many hotels in certain areas is that a lot of people and businesses are brand loyal, so there are usually a couple different offerings by Marriott and also a couple different offerings by Hilton in the tourist or destination areas like Downtown, Southport, Etc.

Doesn't hurt that it's right off the interstate, too. That will always be a major draw for multiple hotels.

Here is the info on the Complex:
The La Vista sport complex has been estimated to cost $125 million. Local officials said it could be built with $50 million from the state, $10 million from the city and the rest through private donations.
The complex’s 185-acre site near Interstate 80 and Giles Road in La Vista will feature two Olympic-sized pools, 12 soccer fields, 24 tennis courts, and turf fields that could support soccer and lacrosse.
Plans are for work on the site, which is in an area prone to flooding, to start this year, and the facility is scheduled to open in 2017.

This will be a fantastic addition to the area. Hopefully it will get other similar projects off the ground. These things are gold mines. KC has a bunch and keeps adding more for the various sports.

It really could be the catalyst for more growth in that area. Omaha has great potential to be a regional host for events. I know there are already a ton of little league tournaments in the Omaha around the same time as the CWS every year. There is also the president's day volleyball tournament at the CLink each year. It would be great to add another sport or two as well.

Wow...never heard of this project. Exciting..!
I can get pushed out because I'm "too much" for some. Then, an observer of me comes suddenly swooping in to "fill my shoes." People are always more accepting of the new one, because their feathers aren't truly ruffled by them. (Yawn) I can count on it every time.

From the World Herald article today:
In the most optimistic projections, the pool will be installed at the multisport complex near Interstate 80 and Giles Road in late summer 2018, just before its projected opening that fall.

Don't know why there would be an advantage to sounding more like a cocktail.

Not that I'm arguing my point but it wouldn't be the first time a company used the name of the populations center while locating outside of it and it wouldn't be the last. I'd figure you guys would be well aware of that.

You could do that. I think in this scenario though where Omaha was going to have it but decided not to pony up, I can definitely see why they chose to go the other direction.

With the Chasers, they are trying to sell tickets metro area wide and did not want to alienate the largest portion of their fan base. I'm not sure I would have every purchased a Papillion Storm Chasers hat or sweatshirt. But for my kids sports I'm obviously going to take them where ever our games are scheduled and the tournaments are, the name of the complex does not matter.

They can call this thing whatever they want as long as they actually start it. It's gonna be a huge boost for the surrounding area and Omaha overall.

Those are both bad. The Angels have been ridiculed for that naming mess.

Agreed, we are so far behind our surrounding cities on youth complexes. So much money to be made by the area.
