Those are both bad. The Angels have been ridiculed for that naming mess.

The Angels and Anaheim finally corrected their mistake a few years ago and the team was allowed to drop the "Of Anaheim" from their name. It had been required as a term of their lease. They pretty much just quietly removed the suffix after the 2013 season.

http://mlb.nbcsports.com/2013/09/04/the ... new-lease/

Shoehorning multiple city names into a team name never works and I'm glad Sarpy County didn't try to force it on the Storm Chasers. We like to make a big deal out of it here, but it's not unheard of. There are numerous minor leage teams and some Pro teams in the major 4 sports that don't play in the city itself, but still use the name.

I am really psyched about this facility! This is something the area really needs. Omaha needs to start working on their bid to host the state high school championship meet there. I never thought that the Devany Center pool was all that great, even when I went to the state meet there in the mid 1970's.

I can almost guarantee state swimming will be moving here.

Interesting name choice! Looks like its a nice place though. I'm assuming there will now be a competition possibly between the Centurylink center and this new place for the Olympic Swim trails? Then again you need seating capacity which I don't even think this place will have.

I stand corrected it does have seating capacity inside the complex. This could be a direct threat to Centurylink' center bid to host the swim trails and it could be moved to La vista instead. This is going to be a Interesting battle of the cities when the swim trails come back around!

http://www.ketv.com/news/125-million-mu ... 8/41264284

If you notice in the pictures provided by KETV it does have some seating but not a lot which could work in favor of Centurylink!

This will not compete with the CenturyLink Center for holding events. If anything it would complement the CLink. Swimmers could use this in their "downtime" to keep fresh. Also, it may help local swimmers a lot with preparation for meets or the Trials.

It sounds like the Natatorium is going to seat 3,000.

Either way this is a world class facility and I'm glad we are able to build this in the Metro area! I'm sad we can't build it in Omaha but it's better then nothing being built!

The biggest impact will the the scores of athletes under 18 and their families that come for swim meets and tennis/soccer tournaments. Hotel room $, restaurant $ retail $ ect.

Are they giving the complex a pretentious name like Natatorium so the area peasants will think it's something else and not go there?

My one concern is I do not see a 10 meter platform in the diving well. It looks like there are one and three meter springboards and a five meter tower, but no ten meter which is the international standard. I'll have to look at the plans closer to see if I am mistaken in what I am seeing.

Why is it pretentious to call something by its name?

We can call it the Werner Swimming Hole I guess. Maybe the Clean Water Crik?

I noticed that as well, that would be a bummer if they build as this but do not include a 10M tower.

It was a poor attempt at a joke. I've never heard of a swimming pool complex called that until today.

I wonder if regular joes will be able to buy monthly passes to swim in it. I think there is actually a lack of indoor swimming pools for lap swimming.

Pool time can be difficult to come by during most of the year. One good thing about this setup is there are movable bulkheads so the pool can be configured as one long course (50 meter) pool, or two short course (25 yard) pools. Since this is designed to be a competition pool the lanes will be plenty wide for circle lap swimming. Still, I expect swim clubs will get first dibs, and mornings, before school, and evenings, after school, will be hard to get lane time for the regular (and older) Joes and Josephine's.

I think it's huge Harold Cliff is staying and taking this on. Supposedly he will still help behind the scenes to help Omaha's next bid for the swim trials.

Per Hailey Konnath / World-Herald staff writer:

Nebraska Multisport Complex in La Vista to rely less on donations

Organizers originally said about 70 percent of the project’s funds would come from private donors, but now they’re planning for just 36 percent of funds to come from donations.

The rest of the funds will come from financing supported by operating revenues and turnback tax revenue and from the City of La Vista.

Do their salaries seem a little high? The Director of Development raised just $32,000 after her expenses in 2015.

Trish Hoffman-Ahrens, Director of development, $147,000
Denise Bartels, Project lead, $151,000
Additional Expenses: $9,000 "donor relations"

Donations Raised:
2015: $188,000
2014: $423,000
2013: $164,000

The World Herald is correct. There appear to be more then a few slippery parties involved in this deal.

Agreed. We are already behind in this area. I've posted about several of these in KC that are being built or opening in KC (they were already ahead of us). Sioux Falls and Des Moines seems to be in advance of us too. Glad the one in CB at Mid America Center got up and running.
