Even including the foreign market, a lot of these movies with +$200 million budgets struggle to break even.

A lot of that is due to creative accounting to generate paper losses, and prevent studios from paying out performance based bonuses. Just plug "Hollywood accounting" into your search engine of choice and there should be several articles on the topic.RNcyanide wrote:Even including the foreign market, a lot of these movies with +$200 million budgets struggle to break even.

8 screens with room for 800 people, so they'll probably be gunning for a smaller feel in each theater. Also, the bar and restaurant will be separate entities.

In comparison, anyone know what the Filmstresms hold?
15-17, 26, 32
Re: Drafthouse Cinema and Entertainment Center
Two theaters. The main one holds 206, and the smaller one holds 96. So about 300 (rounded).MTO wrote:In comparison, anyone know what the Filmstresms hold?

I noticed that at least two additional buildings are being constructed next to the new cinema building. Any idea what will be going into them?

I know Boot Barn was mentioned over in the Southport Thread.nativeomahan wrote:I noticed that at least two additional buildings are being constructed next to the new cinema building. Any idea what will be going into them?
The other day I had to make an exhibit showing the grading for a patio one of the buildings, so I am guessing some kind of coffee shop or food establishment will be going in there or at least they hope one will go there some day.

Soon-to-open Omaha movie theater unveils 'Star Wars'-themed lobby, Death Star
The eight-screen theater, restaurant and taproom opening soon at 12750 Westport Parkway in La Vista unveiled its "Star Wars"-themed lobby Sunday, which features a specially made a 10-foot-wide Death Star and other items from a galaxy far, far away. Far-ish, anyway: Kansas.
The "Star Wars" items were made by the Kansas City design firm Dimensional Innovations and will be a permanent fixture of the theater's lobby.

I've had the pleasure of touring it a time or two...it's really impressive. The bar/restaurant is really cool. 48 beers on tap, the majority of which will be local. The theatre seats themselves are comfy and it's pretty slick how the service works.
In short, it's pretty awesome.

It may be published somewhere but I have not seen it. Any idea how movie ticket costs will compare to other theaters?
For the record NEBUGEATER does not equal BUGEATER !!!!!!!
Re: Drafthouse Cinema and Entertainment Center
I checked out pricing at the Kansas City one and it looked to be $11.50 for weekend night shows, which Majestic in Omaha is $10.00 so it would be a little more expensive.nebugeater wrote:It may be published somewhere but I have not seen it. New Omaha theater Alamo Drafthouse is a 'haven' for true-blue movie fans
Thought this was also interesting...the map shows the number of theaters and screens in the Omaha area(12 with 155 screens):

I only go to Aksarben Cinema. Its locally owned by a great family that puts a lot of time an effort in to the UNO and Aksarben community.

I go to either Aksarben and Majestic until now. You should check out Alamo, as long as it is like the KC and Texas locations I have been to you will love it.Brad wrote:I only go to Aksarben Cinema. I stopped in over the weekend. They had a few "local" beers, but nowhere near a majority. The bar area was really nice.43county wrote:I've had the pleasure of touring it a time or two...it's really impressive. This was my first Alamo experience and I thought it was alright. The seats at the Majestic are much better. The people sitting next to us ordered (refilled?) several times during the movie, so it was pretty annoying having the wait staff walk in front of us every 20-30 mins.
Since everything in the building is less than a month old, I can easily say that the: screens were perfect, the picture quality very good, the sound system fantastic, the floors clean, etc.
Overall I will continue driving past the AMC Oakview on my way to the Majestic. I could see myself stopping into Alamo for a craft beer sometime since there are not many craft beer bars in the area.

If you woke up this morning believing there’s no particular reason to envy moviegoers in Omaha this month, think again!
The Alamo Drafthouse cinema chain has just opened a Star Wars-themed movie theater in the Nebraska city, presumably the country’s first.

Re: Drafthouse Cinema and Entertainment Center
Wow that is nice to get notoriety in Entertainment Weekly for this. Looks great and I am not even a Star Wars fan!
Re: Drafthouse Cinema and Entertainment Center
I made my first visit to Alamo last weekend for Krampus.
Loved the Death Star themed lobby and the fact you can fire the laser from the throne. Extremely cool.
I also appreciated the pre-show entertainment. You don't get anything like it at other theaters in Omaha. It's nice to have some irreverent and humorous entertainment that's semi related to the movie you're about to see.
The food was pretty good. I didn't think the prices were bad for what you got, especially since it's a movie theater. And things like bottomless popcorn for $6 compares very well to what you get at other theaters. Beers for $3.50-$5.00 aren't bad either.
The wait staff scurrying around for the first half of the movie was borderline annoying to me, but it's the nature of the beast with places like that. The lights under my table were actually more distracting than anything. I wish I could just turn them off if I wasn't going to be ordering anything else.
All in all, I really liked it. A few kinks to work out here and there, but I will be visiting regularly in the future.

Re: Drafthouse Cinema and Entertainment Center
Dumb question, is the for adults only, like a bar?
Was going to take my kids there for Star Wars (they saw a picture of the lobby) but am wondering if the place is for adults only.

Contact the theater directly. They have kid sessions, but prime time is for adults only.Greg S wrote:Dumb question, is the for adults only, like a bar?

Re: Drafthouse Cinema and Entertainment Center
It's not necessarily for adults only...but, they have pretty strict rules. They have a strict no talking, no texting, and no being seated after the start of the feature policy. The will give one warning for talking and texting and after that people are booted with no refund. I think I read that children under 6 aren't permitted for most shows (assuming G rated family fare would be an exception) and children over 6 have to be accompanied by an adult at all times.Greg S wrote:Dumb question, is the for adults only, like a bar?

Some of those policies might make families think twice about taking kids especially if they are prone to talking or being fidgety. Overall, I think it's just common sense stuff though.
