Wal-Marts are so basic and generic, it doesn't take long for them to pop up :? . Thanks for the update.

They're also working on the strip of retail abutting 72nd Street in the center of the development (I don't believe this is in Brad's photos... but otherwise great update Brad! ;) )

We'll see how much it actually looks like their rough rendering...

I hope those buildings aren't all crooked and wavy like that - plus, it looks like they can't even color within the lines :D

It would worry me a little that this drawing is old enough to not include Lowe's. Hopefully the development still looks as nice as your second picture.

Yeah, I was in a hurry, and there wasn't much there yet, steel frame on one and a concreet pad on another.

It sounds as if a Bennigan's grill is going up in front of the big boxes. Also, it is too bad that even with Papillion's tougher building standards (tougher than Omaha, anyway), the Wal-Mart still looks so boxy. I was in DSM last weekend and saw how nice the new Wal-Mart in West DSM looks. It is across from the Jordan Creek Town Center (my first visit to that center, and I was very impressed...much nicer than anything yet in metro Omaha). We could learn a few things about ambiance and building standards from our friends in Iowa.

JCTC is surrounded by 6 lane boulevards....something Omaha has almost none of. It appears they build their roads for the future growth, instead of what we do in Omaha....wait until the development is already in place and traffic is clogged before even talking about widening roads. Q St. is a perfect example. West Center Rd should be 6 lanes from I-680 west to 204th St. Will any of us live to see that happen?

-Kind of like ripping up a mile a Harrison to add one TURNING lane? I agree we need to do a better job of planning (but don't get stupid like KC - I heard it could cost a billion dollars just to repair all of their roads).

Thanks for the update Brad!

As big boxes go, these ones don't look too bad. They have quite a few different facade elements breaking up the massive scale of the Walmart. They all have some pretty decent looking masonry work.

Restaurants, game shop head to Market Pointe
Omaha World Herald wrote:Panera Bread and Qdoba Mexican Grill are coming to the Shoppes at Market Pointe under construction near Papillion, the developer says. Also committed to the 74-acre shopping center are GameStop, Payless Shoe Source, Wells Fargo Bank, Bennigan's and Arby's, according to developer Owen Buckley.

Not bad. This is coming together finally. Nice shots Brad.
The only thing I hate about this development is if you exit north onto Giles you can only go east.
What the heck is up with that?

It was a comprise to get the neighbors to shut the |expletive| up.  It makes people use the 72nd street exits not the giles exit so the neighbors can gout of their hood easier.

Oh. That does make sense. Those 99-ers are pretty fickle though.
I went through their hood to turn around. Did they ever think that it may INCREASE the traffic in their own hood?

Wells Fargo plans opening celebration

http://www.omaha.com/index.php?u_page=1 ... d=10054586

Wells Fargo Bank's 59th Nebraska office will hold an opening celebration Saturday at 72nd Street and Giles Road in Papillion's Market Pointe shopping area.

The 10 a.m. ribbon-cutting will be followed by other attractions from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., including a Wells Fargo stagecoach display. Mike Perkins manages the 5,000-square-foot branch, which has 14 employees and features a mural of Sarpy County and Omaha history

I'm surprised nobody has asked where the Bennigan's is.  Well I think I found my answer...

I wondered that myself.  This  area has seen new life in 2013.  And they are finally starting to fill in the suburban housing development next door, that languished nearly house-less for 5 years.

Is that like a Super Strip Club.  That would be the first interesting thing in this development.

The sign is up on Firehouse Subs. They are still working inside. I heard someone at another location say they hoped to be open by the end of June.

Market Pointe won’t be getting any more fast-food restaurants.

Kelsey Stewart / Times Staff Writer wrote: At its July 1 meeting, the Papillion City Council voted against adding a fourth fast-food restaurant in the shopping center near 72nd Street and Giles Road.

In the development’s original agreement with the city, the number of fast-food restaurants in the shopping center was limited to three occupying a maximum of 5 percent of Market Pointe’s 550,000 square feet.

Just saw a post on Facebook that Pizza Ranch here is closing this Wednesday for good. Seems like there has been quite a bit of turnover in this development lately.

I ate at that Pizza Ranch for a weekday lunch back in August. It was completely dead inside. I think I was one of maybe 4 tables of people dining there at noon on a Thursday.

We ate there on a Sunday about 2 months ago. It was really busy that day, but I felt sorry for workers, you could tell they were really short-staffed. The guy cleaning tables was doing an awesome job though.
