We had one. It was called Peony Park. We couldn't bring ourselves to keep it nice. Till we are willing to enforce laws and norms of social behavior in this city, we have no reasonable chance to have something like that.

Tagge Rutherford to get ‘fresh start’ on West Dodge corridor with $7.5 million project

Construction has started on a $7.5 million building project that will move Tagge Rutherford Financial Group to 158th Street and West Dodge Road.
The new headquarters comes as Tagge Rutherford hits 21 years in business.

I always pictured a bunch of guys wearing green eye shades & #2 pencils, sitting there crunching numbers for Buffett. He makes such a big deal out of having such a small headquarters office staff and not doing a ton of due diligence when making a purchase. I just figure that after the purchase the boys in that building attacked the balance sheet and p&l. Of course I could be wrong.

Whether you like it or not, some of those mid-20th century modern design cues have made a comeback recently. I call it the Mad Men effect. (if you watch that A&E show, you'll know what I mean)

The National Indemnity facade is well done as a composition in my opinion, although some parts don't age too well without meticulous maintenance.

I know it just my preference, but I like the late 1800's - early 1930's and the brick that come with most of them. I also really like the sleek glass modern building we see today. I am just not a big fan of buildings with few or small windows.

The 'International' style of architecture was a bad time. You get some good ones, like the Woodmen and the smaller First National, but there are a lot of bad examples of it. Rectangular-tubular buildings with lots of steel or concrete and smaller windows.

I would respectfully disagree it was a "bad time." Just like from any designated "style" from any time period, there were some true masterpieces created and also some complete |expletive|. The Woodmen is okay, but not the best modernist example.

Here's one of my favorite masterpieces....



The pure simplicity of that work is very difficult to achieve. Like any other style, it gets copied over and over and the original ideas get lost in translation.
Personally, I like having a wide variety of different styles to look at, from 1880s brick warehouses, to 1900s Beaux arts, to 1920-30s Art Deco, to Mid-century Modern, to 1990s-2000s deconstructionism such as work by Frank Gehry. They each have their own merit.

Probably so, but that remains to be seen....seems a waste to trash a 41,000 SF, 6-story building, with an assessed value of $3,270,200. It depends on the needs and design of new development on the site. ....sorry, I'm getting off-topic for this thread, it will probably get deleted or moved now.
