Leo & Rosemary Daly Acreage (96th & Dodge)
Rosemary Daly's house and 12 acres sold last month for $7M. Transfer statement says intended for same use, which would be surprising since it's right next to Westroads.
I decided to take a couple of pictures in case it gets flattened.
I guess this might be considered off-topic until development starts...

Re: Leo & Rosemary Daly Acreage
No kidding that would be a surprise. That land would have huge office retail or residential demand.

Wow, thanks for posting....I had no idea there was that much land there. I always drove by on Dodge and wondered what was there.
All I could find was info on Slosburg.com regarding the land. It just states build to suit, call for details.

Re: Leo & Rosemary Daly Acreage
This is probably the best lot in the city for a rich person to build a mansion. You're close to just about everything. Downtown is a relatively short drive, West O is close by, you're near the interstate, the Westroads, Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, Regency, not too far from Aksarben Village and the lot is big enough to do some spectacular stuff. I hope they build a well designed mega mansion which will prompt some to decry the conspicuous consumption. That would make me smile.
Re: Leo & Rosemary Daly Acreage
Glad you guys like the post. Yeah Slosburg owns 3.5 acres on the NW corner and I hope the assessor revalues it...

The potential for that land is limitless. And it won't involve one house!
Re: Leo & Rosemary Daly Acreage
I drive by that area on a near-daily basis. I had no idea that was back there. I thought it was a drainage area or something, and I had no idea the plot was that big.

Re: Leo & Rosemary Daly Acreage
This picture is a little misleading on the size. There is a couple strip malls on the west side facing the Westroads you just can't see them because of the trees.
This location is fantastic. You could put a really high end condo complex at that site and leave the trees around the exterior. People would pay a lot of money to live in a green space at that central of a location.
Re: Leo & Rosemary Daly Acreage
Yeah the angle is deceptive. Here's a map with boundaries...

Still a pretty big lot though, not exactly a lightweight.

There are wild turkeys that inhabit this property. I've had to stop for them on more than one occasion while on 96th & Burt. Always makes me chuckle

Back when I worked at Von Maur the turkeys occasionally turned up by the east door. They were usually gone by the time we opened, I was always concerned that they would peck at our customers.RNcyanide wrote:So thats where they come from!!debradomayer wrote:There are wild turkeys that inhabit this property. 96th and Dodge
Does anybody know what the plans are for the lot on 96th and dodge? I remember reading that the property had sold earlier in the year.
This week there was construction equipment out there tearing down the mansion on the property.
I apologize if there is a thread on this already, could not find anything.

Re: 96th and Dodge
I have no idea, but they really need to extend Underwood Ave to make anything work here.

I don't see any permits filed for new construction.

Drove by on Dodge. There is a billboard for Embassy luxury apartments. Could that be going in there?

No; Embassy Park Apartments are at 90th & Burt. The sign has been there for years but they do change it out every few years.bigredmed wrote:Drove by on Dodge. There is a billboard for Embassy luxury apartments. Could that be going in there?

Nice piece on the former owner by the OWH. Old news but helps explain the large private site in the middle of the city.

City won't approve new plans until the old structure is gone. It's zoned General Office.

I guess there was a lot of asbestos to remove. Many of the windows have been removed, and I'm told that was a common place asbestos is found.

Definitely had the architect part down. The interior design part left a lot to be desired...

It was pretty nice. To the west there's a steep drop and a gentler one to the south, so you don't see Westroads or Dodge at all.Brad wrote:What was the view like from up there?
Here's a panorama from I think West to Northeast, where you can see the land below:
Re: Leo & Rosemary Daly Acreage (96th & Dodge)
That is amazing. The stuff that is right in the middle of the city that you never realized even existed.
How long has the place been vacant? Was the previous owner living there until the time of her death?
The house looks like it hadn't been updated much since the 1950's. Like a time capsule.
This kind of hits on my ruin porn fascination. Wonder what other places in Omaha exist like this right under our noses?

There was the bank vault downtown. Beyond these two, I'm not sure what else.omaha79 wrote:That is amazing. The stuff that is right in the middle of the city that you never realized even existed.

I think the Mercer Mansion is another hidden gem. At least I would like to be able to take a closer look in at it behind the trees on the north side of Cuming at 40th? Would love to be able to take a tour of that site.
My old signature got too old. So old it was getting almost as old me as me. Yeah, it was up there in years.

Wow, what an awesome, eccentric place. Too bad it had to go.
