This is very exciting. I live in the Sunset Hills neighborhood, and the school is in serious need of updating.

Wow they are aggressive with this. Lots of memories lost but I understand the need.
Re: Westside Community Schools Construction
The new Oakdale Elementary is complete and teachers are moving their things in. Sunset Hills Elementary is about 1/2 complete, school continues next door in the old building. Swanson Elementary is now closed and teachers are moving their things out ahead of demolition.

The old Swanson is completely gone and the new school has gone vertical.
The old Sunset is almost gone, they are removing some footings or basement and the new school looks basically finished on the outside. It will be interesting to see if they get the parking in over the next month before school starts.

Westside High got new LED lights at Phelps Field this summer. They were testing them for the first time tonight. Wonder if they will turn colors and do tricks like Alabama's LED lights?

Re: Westside Community Schools Construction
a couple of years ago, summer of '18. The first time they were used was during the storm out game. Ironically there really has not been a night game to show them off at yet. In '18 there was no other night game. In '19 there were a couple of Sept games with 6:30 starts where the lighting doesn't play a big role. They have never really been able to show them off.
The best I have seen of what they can do lighting wise ( nothing fancy) is during state football playoffs. They really light the place up. From people I know, they put out at least twice the light of the old system.

Re: Westside Community Schools Construction
There are better renderings of this elsewhere, I'll track those down.
https://planning.cityofomaha.org/images ... ber/18.pdfThis proposed amendment would allow for demolition and new construction of a portion of an existing
extracurricular and community activity building on the campus, along with expansion of the existing
cafeteria. A 21,190 square foot portion of the existing natatorium, locker rooms and secondary gym
will be demolished and replaced with a new Life Complex addition with a building footprint of 26,620
square feet. The Life Complex addition will house a new natatorium, locker, training room, secondary
gym, fitness room and multi-purpose fitness room. The new addition will be three stories with an
overall height of 50 feet. The cafeteria addition will update the façade and expand the cafeteria area
by approximately 3, 780 square feet. There will be no increase in height of the cafeteria.
