http://www.omaha.com/sarpy/papillion/fa ... 559f5.htmlWork on the site is expected to begin immediately. Dan Madrigal, who works on acquisitions for infrastructure for Facebook, said if weather cooperates, they expect the facility to be completed in two years. He anticipates there will be "a couple hundred" permanent jobs once the facility is complete.

Well, as big as it looks there will be a lot of dusting and mopping and general cleaning to do, not to mention the bathrooms. In addition, big lawn to mow and lots of shoveling in the winter.nebugeater wrote:WBR_Tom wrote:Some more background info from the Papillion Times:

Pretty good growth already. Went from 100 permanent jobs in the first announcement I read to a couple hundred in less than 8 hours.
What would be the salary differences?Stargazer wrote:This data center will employ little more than 100 network/hardware admins in the end.
Once upon a time, a facility this size would employ several thousand (with a high school education).
If its anything like the travels data center, it won't even be visible from the road.michaelt wrote:Now if only a creative person could setup a camera near the site, and take a time lapse video over the next few months. It would be interesting to see how quickly the site is developed.
Papillion city limits are just west of Springfield (see the map I just posted) hence, closer to the Data Center. Springfield had a lot to say about that annexation, but ultimately lost. Springfield will be Papillion's Ralston.damonhynes wrote:You can see Springfield from the construction site, but the sign on the corner at NE-50 reads "Papillion Data Center". Sigh.
Better than Papillion's Richfield, lol!Coyote wrote:Papillion city limits are just west of Springfield (see the map I just posted) hence, closer to the Data Center. Actually, 2 billion monthly active usersGreg S wrote:I did see that Facebook recently crossed the 2 billion users mark.
Facebook's already mammoth Papillion data center — which isn't yet online — is already expanding, the company announced Monday morning.
That means the social media giant's investment in the project is now expected to top $1 billion.
The facility will grow to 2.6 million total square feet, expand to six data hall buildings, jump to the east side of Nebraska Highway 50 and sit on 290 acres.
Included in the expansion:
» Another, 670,000-square-foot complex -- made up of two main data center buildings connected by an administration building -- on the northwest side of Highway 50 and Capehart Road.
» An additional, 970,000-square-foot complex -- featuring two more main data center buildings and an administrative building -- on the east side of Highway 50.
Project leaders will break ground on the expansion in April, a year after Facebook unveiled its initial plans for the data center. Those buildings are expected to come online in 2023.

I think that's more than a rumor. I know they talked about it on Grow Omaha last fall.bigredmed1 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 25, 2019 10:17 am Rumor has it that FB wants to build a tunnel under hwy 50 to connect both parcels into a very large data center.
Def more than a rumor. I have talked to the Nebr contractor that has the equipment to do it and was putting together a proposal.Brad wrote: ↑Mon Feb 25, 2019 10:50 amI think that's more than a rumor.
