Because businessmen (and some businesswomen...) don't like to see dancing naked women, ever.

Never ever.

After seeing the name Harrington I put two and two together and realized this guy is the husband of Melissa Midwest who was pretty big in the early 2000's for posing topless in public areas.

I don't care one way or another whether they open or not, as I'm not in their target audience. But I suspect that with social media and 100 ways to hook up with the girl (or guy) of your wet dreams, this idea will sooner or later go bust.

I do not claim to know any city laws regarding strip clubs, but it appears this is getting around the spirit of city laws. Is it because it is a private club or because it is a BYOB club... Or both?

from OWH article

“Because it is private, we are limited in how we can intervene if we could do it at all,” said Mayor Jean Stothert. “As of right now we can’t.”

At issue is whether the club requires a liquor license. If it does, restrictions in state and municipal laws include prohibitions on topless and nude dancers in places where alcohol is served.

But Harrington says not serving alcohol and allowing patrons to bring their own drinks means that the establishment doesn’t require a Nebraska liquor license. And because Harrington’s establishments do not apply for licenses through the Nebraska Liquor Control Commission, the state regulator has no jurisdiction over them, he says.

Omaha City Attorney Paul Kratz described Harrington’s reasoning as a “loophole” in the state liquor law. And city ordinances don’t restrict establishments further than state liquor law, Kratz said

Something that bothers me about this is that a good ol' fashioned strip club, where they keep their clothes on, might actually have some women just looking for part-time work and good money to get through college or something. But full-nudity would lead me to speculate that the majority of "performers" might be trying to support a drug habit of some kind. What kind of self-esteem do you have to have to degrade yourself by taking all of your clothes off in front of strangers?

Orrrrrrr it could just be women who are owning and profiting off their sexuality. If that's what is going to make them happy and they're not being taken advantage of by someone over them, let them do it.

Oh, yeah, I'm sure Mrs. Johnson next door with a college degree, husband, and 2.5 kids is sticking her beaver in stranger's faces on the weekends to the music of "Girls, Girls, Girls." Great way to drum up business for her advertising firm. Like I said, I am just speculating but it seems like a facility that can be an enabler to someone with substance abuse issues. But, yes, it is a free country, thank God, so do what you like.

According to the Nebraska Task Force on Human Trafficking
From our work, we can say that the known number of Nebraska school girls who become victims
of sex trafficking is at least 47 per year. We are certain, based on the fact that our methodology,
in order to avoid any possibility of overestimating, deliberately underestimates the number of
Nebraska school girl victims, and that the true number is probably double this or greater. In
addition, since it was infeasible to try to estimate the number of adults, males, and non-
Nebraskans who are sex trafficking victims, the total number of sex trafficking victims in the
state is certainly much higher.
And national organizations say that many of these girls and women work at strip clubs. Hopefully if the city decides to take some action it is to provide assistance to eradicate slavery maybe funded by taxes on the clubs.

Hopefully, the nice FBI agents on this taskforce will regularly travel from their HQ on 120th and Hellcreek to this place and make sure that the ladies who work there really are just "paying their way through nursing school."

These places should creep us out. If you ever get a chance to have the special agent in charge of this task force talk for your group, take the opportunity to hear her. It is staggering, the number of kids who get swept up in this. Even when they get them back, it's a very hard road to come back to normal.

I realize that Omaha invented industrial scale prostitution at Anna Wilson's joint (and she thought it was a terrible lot in life and got her women married off as often as she could), and we have a mixed opinion on this, with a bar named in her honor, but having this club there, to me, signals the willingness of our city to move the boundary between proper Omaha and the sketchy places where we respond to bad things with a shrug.

LB632, which is the one that had the Nebraska Brewers up in arms last month, included language on "Bottle Clubs" which I believe would apply in this situation. Based on the changes proposed, it appears that no license is currently required.

"Sec. 3. Bottle club means an operation, whether formally organized
11 as a club having a regular membership list, dues, officers, and meetings
12 or not, keeping and maintaining premises where persons who have made
13 their own purchases of alcoholic liquor congregate for the express
14 purpose of consuming such alcoholic liquor upon the payment of a fee or
15 other consideration, including, but not limited to, other services such
16 as the sale of food, ice, mixes, or other fluids for alcoholic drinks and
17 the maintenance of the space for consumption.
18 Sec. 4. A person operating a bottle club shall obtain the
19 appropriate classification of retail license based on the type of
20 beverages consumed. Such operation may be conducted by a club, an
21 individual, a partnership, a limited liability company, or a corporation.
22 An accurate and current membership list shall be maintained upon the
23 premises which contains the names and residences of the members."

It said in the paper yesterday that Stormy Daniels the porn ho helping to destroy Trump is going to be in Omaha performing at the old 20's in a couple of weeks.

World Herald Article: https://www.omaha.com/news/metro/stormy ... b9b4a.html

What a crazy world we live in huh? That guy (Shane Harrington)that owns this place is an epic sleazeball no doubt about that. Wonder how much hes paying her. You figure plane tickets and expenses plus her fee has got to be a minimum of 10,000 bucks.

KFAB was talking about this on their morning show and they sad that Shane Harrington has moved to Spain. I may be wrong on the country but that is what I remember them saying.

I am guessing you are way off on the fee. They also said she is able to avoid the "toch" laws in many places because she is not an employee of the establishments. This was info from Jim Rose so guessing he has the knowledge  . My guess is that she is a private contractor working off tips with a small fee to the establishment. .

You're correct. He lives in Spain. His lease on the 20s is almost up too, from my understanding. (For the record - never been there, but he did buy his Omaha house from someone I know.)

Also, who cares how much she's being paid or what she does with her body? It's hilarious that "midwestern values" folks care about these things when it, literally in no way, affects them.

From what I have read - he wanted to buy the building and fix it up. The current owner (who he rents from) said he didn't want to sell the building. So, yes, the current location will go away.

I'm a bit young to remember - but wasn't American Dream (the location he's moving to), a strip club of sorts?

Before American Dream it was Muldoons for years. I never understood why but there were people that loved Muldoons and they made a ton of money off that bar.

This, um, “entrepreneur” is Omaha’s own version of Larry Flynt (without near as much imagination), so it is fitting that he wanted to purloin Larry Flynt’s name for his new business. Not sure that will fly unless the Flynt estate has reached some licensing agreement with him.
That NE corner of 120 and West Center Road really is the central hub of West O’s dirty laundry. Fitting that the only other business located there is a laundromat, as I recall.

Mancuso Dental just moved in to the last building on the corner. They own it too, so it’s not like they would be forced out at the end of a lease.
