163rd and Pacific

Post by blueblood »

Sorry if brought up before I could not find it

Bob Boozer Drive ends in a T at approximately 163rd and Pacific. There is a light there. On the North side of the intersection is vacant ground where dirt has been dumped for a number of years. There is construction going on there now for a couple of weeks. Large cranes and lot of trucks.

What is it?

Such an odd spot for office space.

The construction going on right now is just to the west of where they've been dumping dirt for years.

Before I posted I was thinking storage units. It sits down like in a hole, thus the dirt dumping. It is very close to a main railroad line and a creek. The whole building will shake and be almost in a flood plain. They won't have to worry about neighbors. Thats why I am so curious as to who would be going in.

I am surprised as well, they have been just in filling here for years. I have never thought someone would actually build here.

I read this on nextdoor.com as well. It's exactly what it says. It will be a public space with vegetation suitable for pollinators... bees, butterflies, humming birds and the like.

That makes sense because after taking a closer look last night, its on the City Property (Red Circle) and not on that private lot to the east (16160 Pacific Street)

Is it also a public flower garden for people to visit? I mean, our taxes are paying for it, so it would be nice to go see it.

This would probably make for some great mayoral election shots... were the public to be made aware of it. :) "First the street car spending... now bees?! This mayor must go!"

(I'm pretty sure Mellow would be even more enthusiastic for the street car project, than Stothert... but it does make for good negative advertising in this town)

When I still had a gallery space in the old Market, there were a couple protests every year about "Saving the Bees". Usually D'Shawn was out there with his bull horn leading them down the street. Apparently one of the ag products companies was using a chemical that was killing all the bees.

Nebraska Game and Parks as well as the US Fish and Wildlife have both had stories this weeks on the need for parks like this.

They are putting a small fence up by Pacific and finishing up a gate for automobile traffic.
Otherwise it looks like they are done for awhile. I assume they will plant a ton of perennials this fall or next spring.
