..June 29th..

According to the billboard located on 132nd St just north of L..

I drove by the D&B location this morning. Seems to be coming along very nicely. I can see an opening in 6 weeks..

You know people crow about Cheesecake Factory..But Dave & Buster's is perhaps an even bigger 'GET' for Omaha. I have frequented a D&B in Dallas (one of 2 in Big D and only 34 locations total..Omaha will be #35)..People will absolutely love the enviornment. The sports bar section is a great place to meet friends, have a drink, 'people watch' and have some great food (a menu and quality of food that blows away TGI Fridays as an example IMO)..The game room area is nice too..

And in case you haven't seen it, a link to their website:

http://www.daveandbusters.com/?f=1

I can't wait for the opening :) ..

Yeah seriously it became rubble like a snap of the finger. I also noticed the other day they were tearing up the east side of Crossroads.

Is it as large as the ones in Denver or St. Louis? I just can't see it being that big at the location were they put it. Although I hope that I'm wrong.

The average D & B is around 60,000 sf., I think. It is my understanding the one in Omaha is about 28,000 sf.

got out to D&B's tonight. had a great time. it is smaller than the ones I've been to in Chicago, Denver and St' Louis. The only disappointing part is that they don't have the pool tables and shuffle board tables . I asked about them and was told that they are trying a new concept for a smaller market, but that they might expand in the area that is left between them and big lots.

I drove by... the entire former Gordman's parking lot was full and there were cars parked in the adjacent neighborhood. They look like they've done a pretty nice job, landscaping/outside seating looks inviting.

The pool tables and shuffle board is what makes the place. I can't believe they didn't include that! Otherwise, it's just Aladdins Castle with a restaurant. That's dissapointing...and they will probably be expanding these all across America.

InPlay has pool. And I don't think D&B will have as cool of roof-top parties as InPlay. Go East!

..and the funky blacklight bowling... I guess you can go to D&B's in the suburbs to say you went to Buster & Dave's or you can go to inPlay in North Downtown to actually get the experience Ingersol says is missing.

InPlay has two spots for bowling; I am starting to favor that game. I bowled a 150 the other night and was even drunk. Also InPlay is going to get that NASCAR simulator, 3 story “realistic” rock climbing wall and “maybe” a game that has a huge screen and you strap in and move around the wall…. I dunno something like that. So will D&B’s get those things to? Plus OmahaChef is the coolest/best chef in Omaha. It also kind of sucks to know D&B’s cheeped out on Omaha.

Although west Omaha seems to be supporting every new upscale chain establishment to such a wild degree... I wouldn't be surprised if they expanded into the area between them and Big Lots (there's alot of space which remains there). I'm more interested in seeing inPlay succeed however.

Guys..

Having both inPlay and Dave & Buster's in Omaha is a real treat..

I'll be heading to D & B's this weekend as it's less than 1 mile from my home..I've frequented one in Dallas and for me, just hanging out in the sports bar area and meeting friends, eating food and people watching makes the atmosphere enjoyable (as well as at inPlay :) )..

D & B's has a big city sophisticated feel to it and they seem to be highly selective about the cities they expand to (only 35 locations nationwide)..Don't expect them to be 'expanding these (D & B's) all across America' as someone here had suggested..

I suspect there will be expansion..But it will be selective..Similar to the expansion plans of the much bally-hoo'ed Cheesecake Factory..

We should all be happy with the fact that Omaha has entertainment options in Dave & Buster's and inPlay that otherwise you'd have to drive to Dallas, Denver, St Louis, Chicago or Peoria, Il to enjoy :)..

Checked out Dave and Buster's today over the lunch hour. The food was pretty good, but was a little on the pricey side for that type of establishment. Hopefully it will be able to make it in the far reaches of suburbia mixed in with all the other |expletive|. Didn't have a chance to play any of the games, but I walked around and checked them out. The best things I saw were that you could play John Madden Football on a BIIIIIG screen (I'm talking like 10' across) or another area allowed you to create a video horse to race against others. I wonder what part of the business makes the most money, and I would be curious to find out. The restaurant, the bar, or the arcade. Anyone else have any ideas?

I went to the grand opening event at D&B's on Tuesday and actually met Dave and Buster and some other important players in the company. They are using us as a test market for smaller cities to see if a city our size can support such a venue. So you should expect to see them popping up all over the country in cities our size. So many people did mention the pool table issue to them that they are HEAVILY considering opening up the remaining space for billiar tables (which we found out cost $15,000 a piece). I also have been working a lot with Inplay and they seem to have some great potential, but I really feel that they are missing the mark with their demo. They are skewing it way too young!

I have no doubt there will be expansion at D & B's..And I had been told Omaha is a test market of sorts as mainly D & B's are in the largest metro markets in the country..

But their M/O has always been to study markets to expand and be a bit selective with it..Lets be realistic..There are currently 35 D & B's across the USA and Canada..If Omaha is indeed a test market for them..We are a ways off a Starbucks or Chilis type expansion..And frankly, I still don't see this type of all out expansion with D & B's popping up in mid-size cities everywhere..I'd say a 10 to 15 city expansion over the next 3 to 5 years is more realistic and consistent with the history of D & B's..

Then again who knows..Maybe they'll gear up..

We'll see..

Maybe I'm being misinterpreted here. Unlike some, I don't feel a need to have a 'monopoly' on chain establishments.

I know this is late in coming, but I finally made it out to Dave & Busters for lunch today. I ended up stretching my 1 hour lunch to 2, but my boss isn't in the office today.

My friend and I were really impressed with the building both inside and outsided. The belt driven cieling fans were something I have never seen before, and the ambiance made us both think we were at a casino. The staff was really great and helpfull, and the hostess was a definate 10 (Service and looks). The food was a little pricey, and we both bought off the back of the menu. The back of the menu has specials that come with a $10 Power Play card. I had a Philly cheese steak sandwich that was just ok and my buddy had a hamburger and some sorta turkey soup that he thought was awesome. My bill for sandwhich and play card was $19.75 tip included.

You can take your drinks anywhere in the gameroom which is a little surprising based on the amount of little kids games. The Madden football on a 63" screen was impressive, but all the other games were pretty old. I remember playing many of the "better" video games they had available back in high school. I played some basketball, horse races, FPS games, and a Flight simulater that was a real ripoff. (4 credits and all I got to do was a single take-off). Everyone else's comments were right on about the pool tables and darts. The whole place looks to be geared towards the 20ish crowd, but many of the games available were for elementry age. I'm really not sure who the target audience is.

I'll probably take my niece back their since it is an upscale Chuck-E-Chese without the pizza, but I probably won't go back just for the food.

Next stop, Inplay!

Smoking was allowed at the Bar only, which was pretty segragated from the dining room and the game room. The bar was pretty big and long, probably sits 40 people easily. Cigarettes only, no chewing tobacco, pipes, or cigars. The Hostess asked if it was our first time to D&B's and then gave all the information we could ever need about the place. (Even where the restrooms were) :D

Do you see the D & B in the background. I found this on SSC and thought D & B would be good DT. Not to compete w/ inPlay or anything Chef. It was nice meeting you by the way.

Is it just me or is the service at Dave and Busters really bad. I have been in there a couple of times and it really seems like no one knows what they are doing. There is a night and day difference between Dave and Busters and InPlay. The food and service at InPlay is much better but I think Dave and Busters has more games to pick from although its a big void not having the pool tables. Speaking of pool tables at Dave and Busters, I talked to one of the managers there and asked him if they were expanding on and adding pool tables and he said no. The Gordman people were hoping that D&B would expand into the 40,000 sq ft between them and Big Lots but D&B is a corporate driven restaurant that he said goes by numbers and the numbers for Omaha's store show it making more per square foot then any other D&B. So he said that you'll never see pool tables there because pool tables don't generate the money that a dining area does.

Adam* I doubt it at this current time. I think it would slightly over saturate the market. But I’m sure in a year or two when hundreds of more people live down there and more importantly the “reverse donut whole” theory is taking hold of the burbanits habits it may fly.

Nice catch bugeater. I hadn't heard of ALDI's until now.
There is one on North 90th and one in Bellevue.
