Good start.  Now, if we could just start bulldozing the rest of the suburbs like we did our downtown for the last 60 years and rebuild them like this, we might be on to something.

^This development has more than that, though.  Concepts like residential units above retail space is not something you usually see in new suburban developments, so this is a move in the right direction.  Also, three story buildings is not something we have seen much of in suburban development either, sadly.

Not all of us, just Big E. His heaven would be an acre of parking in front of a strip mall that has a painted cinder block facade and a take-and-bake pizza joint, pay check advance business, and a discount haircutter.  :;):

Oh yes I forgot about the residential above retail...  That isn't bad I will grant you but its only on the plan because otherwise they couldn't have retail at all... We will see if it gets built that way.

Don't misread my optimism.  This sucks compared to what we should have had with our mixed use areas (based on the work that Omaha by Design did).  Since things are what they are, I am trying to look for the positives.  I am concerned that if we do a half-rear mixed-use area and it flops because they left out critical parts (ie street connectivity and true walkability) then people will want good ol suburban development back.  I hope not.  As Big E pointed out it is light years better than the strip malls of the past.  Mixed use seems to have a wide definition in the city of Omaha though.  Just read the city council agendas.  It can mean Leytham and it can also mean an auto repair shop next to a retail store.  Well that narrows things down a bit.

The Sports Authority looks to be nearing completion.  Pet-smart has not started any construction.

There is also an strip mall under construction in front of target.

Looks like something new going in east of SuperTarget next to Freddy’s right next to 168th.

Greg
I noticed the area east of 168th has had some roads laid out. The light at Bedford now no longer has the left-turn bay painted and they added extra signals. You can also see they've been doing work off Maple at 165th as well. It looks like this area is starting to finally fill in.

New strip between PetSmart and Hobby Lobby. It’s coming along! I think it’s a really nice layout and style. Could see some tenants further east on Maple running to this. Decent sized parking lot too. Snapped these last weekend during an Aldi run.

Didn't realize a Metro Credit Union is going in next to Aldi, that's awesome to see them expanding this direction

Adding photos of a few things in the Whispering Ridge area...

They have added a MASSIVE renovation tent in front of the Super Target! Employees have confirmed the renovation will be similar in scope to the 178th and W Center Rd. location... so the full overhaul (West O Fancy Target #2!) is expected.

(The Tent spans huge area and blocks the lot off by the Casey's, Panda Express, etc.)

Also including photos of the nearly complete ‘Small Shops’ off 172nd and Evans Street (loopnet info mentioned above) and the (almost open?) O’Reilly Auto Parts on the east side of the shopping center near 168th and Bedford Ave as well as the Rocket Car Wash planned for the Southeast corner of 168th and Maple.

Looks almost ready to lease!

The new strip mall here really seems to have stalled. I think it's been six months since I have seen any activity there.

Agreed. That new strip is lovely and well built and... dormant and... empty.

It looks like Rocket Car Wash grading began this week and the corner lot by the entrance by O’Reilly, 168th and Bedford Avenue, has grading going on. I checked the deed on that and Northwest Bank owns it, but who knows if they are gonna build a bank or they’re the owner of whatever is being built. Anyone know?

That site has been sitting empty for years. Is this an additional location or replacement location for GolfTec? The owner is a great guy!
