Interesting. At the old Tie Yard location in Council Bluffs, they had an old Caboose sitting there forever. That caboose disappeared last month. Wonder if it moved over here?

2-hotel plan near Sam's Club to offer short-stay, long-stay options
A combined $15 million investment, the 78-room Holiday Inn Express is geared for the shorter-stay traveler and the 80-room Candlewood Suites targets visitors who stay longer.

Work on the Holiday Inn Express is expected to begin this month, provided the City Council grants a special-use permit for the now undeveloped land

As the Holiday Inn nears completion in about nine months, construction on the Candlewood Suites would begin.

Not surprising. I've never seen more than a half dozen cars parked near the store and you gotta figure at least two of them belong to employees. Not that the store on 72nd Street is any busier...

Sports Authority used to be a pretty good store, but now I don't know how they stay in business anywhere. Their stores just don't stack up well against others.

How is it much different than Dicks? I shop them both, buy rarely in either. They just seem about the same to me.

To me they are similar. I shop at both. I like Scheel's far better than either of them.

I agree with the above. Scheel's I just like more. Dicks is okay, and Sports Authority seems past its prime and that they are "phoning it in" anymore.

I was just going to mention that, I kind of miss the World Market that used to be on 78th & Dodge, and wasn't there one across the street from the Pier 1 Imports in VP? I have a few pieces of furniture and some kitchen items from there.

Yes there was one at VP. Wasn't the location where Pier 1 is now?

When they closed the two in Omaha weren't there some others in the region that closed? I remember it being tied distribution to the Omaha and other locations. AS far as I know the one in Des Moines as been open the whole time.

I think it was across the street from Pier 1, where I think Old Navy is now?

I am so very happy that World Market is returning! I love that store for its eclectic mix of merchandise, including good wine deals and interesting food that you can't find anywhere else in town, at least all under one roof.
We make regular trips to KC, and always make a point of loading the trunk up with things from the World Market store in Westport.

Cost Plus World Market, BuyBuy Baby slated to open this fall at L Street Marketplace
A spokeswoman tells me the stores are expected to open in “early fall.” BuyBuy Baby will be about 24,000 square feet and Cost Plus about 20,000.

I should have taken a pic, but the facade of Sports Authority is now gone and it looks like months before they will be ready to open the new tenants here.

According to the Omaha World Herald article about hotels being built behind Sam's, Holiday Inn should be built in nine months... Which would be July, next month.. If you've driven by there lately they haven't even started building!! I'm getting married in November right down the street and was very excited to have guest have a hotel so close but I'm not seeing the hope it'll be done by then.... Dang! :(

The display track for the new tie yard office just west of Miller lumber has been installed. I can't wait to see some old railroad equipment sitting on it! I'll get a good picture soon as the sun is at a better angle.

I notes a huge land grading operation east of the new hotel. Any ideas what that is all about?
