Not sure about the open space other than that I know that for some reason the hospital wanted direct access of W. Dodge. In the interim I am going to guess a parking lot. Eventually I believe a parking structure will be built on Children's land. The question is if it will be the open space north of the hospital or east of the hospital.

Think west of there. I would also guess some of this empty space will be filled by a widened West Dodge Road. I know the city has been studying it and I would guess it will makes it was into the Capital Improvement plan before long.they poured curbs where the entrances were to davidsons furniture so the west dodge access wont be there.

With all the properties they've nabbed along Dodge and 84th Streets, which form a triangle shape, it seems like a terrible waste to just make an addition that juts straight out like that. Not a very good use of space.

Heck, at this rate, in 10 years they will need it for another expansion.StreetsOfOmaha wrote:With all the properties they've nabbed along Dodge and 84th Streets, which form a triangle shape, it seems like a terrible waste to just make an addition that juts straight out like that. Children's Hospital, UNMC tighten their bond

If your child is seen by a specialist at Children's Hospital, chances are the doctor is on the faculty at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
That's part of a working relationship that Children's and UNMC have had for decades.
Now the relationship is to be formalized under an agreement between the UNMC College of Medicine and Children's. The two institutions announced the deal Friday.
Harold Maurer, UNMC chancellor, said the affiliation will increase the national prominence of both Children's and the College of Medicine.
"That connection is critical," he said.
As part of the agreement, Children's will contribute $1 million annually to a fund that will be used to support the shared goals of the hospital and the college.

Well, I know no specifics, but they supposedly have been in negotiations with American National Bank before. I would think there is a possibility of a parking garage in the area of Davidsons/American National Bank.
I also wonder if this poster is more referring to Methodists plans, which may refer to developing the land they already own between Farnam Dr. and Dodge St. They may also purchase the fire station and Village Inn & Econo Lodge. Remember, they also own most of the real estate between Indian Hills Dr. and West Dodge Road between 84 St. and 90th St. All of the land except HDR.

Ok, I'll give a description a try. Â The pic/model you see above the one in the pic by Coyote, the addition seems about right, but from the board at HDR it seemed to be a bit more substantial than the one in the picture. Â The next phases are actually a parking garage below and building which jets out (the circular wall of glass) like the one does now... Â The new building/parking garage will sit to the East of the new building now in the photo (which I don't believe to be the final render - at least from what I saw... but please bare with me, I only looked at the board for a few quick seconds), and North of the existing building. Â This future phase however, would need to see the demolition of the Strip center now located there.

Children's Hospital gets name change

Rick Ruggles, http://www.omaha.com wrote:Children’s Hospital now will be called "Children’s Hospital and Medical Center" and sport a new logo to reflect the research and teaching that occur there.
The name also reflects the fact that Children’s entered a formal affiliation in 2007 with the University of Nebraska Medical Center’s College of Medicine, said Gary Perkins, president and chief executive officer of the institution at 8200 Dodge St.

I am not sure how much $ Children's gets from the state/feds, but I do know that this expansion has been on the books for close to 5 years now.
I also am understanding that most of this expansion is for the Audiology dept. which just happens to be close to my heart. (So possible bias there).
But nonetheless, Children's hospital does have great staff, doctors and extended network of help from outside doctors and clinics, etc, but their Audiology/ENT, depts need better facilities. They now only have a small section of space and they need to grow. And the only other place to go in town for help in this area is BoysTown, and while many seem to like them, we had way too many [bad] stories to report that we just were not happy with how things went.
So I am very happy that the new expansion is going well, even if it is still going to take a couple of years before completion and movement of departments into the new space.

Really? Â I am 32 now, but as a child I was born with something like 20% hearing in both ears. Â I had multiple surgeries and about 6-8 sets of tubes until I was in 6th grade (or so). Â I can't complain with them, as I have great hearing now and have had no problems for 20 years or so.wigster wrote: And the only other place to go in town for help in this area is BoysTown, and while many seem to like them, we had way too many [bad] stories to report that we just were not happy with how things went.
Have they just gone downhill since then?
I had a friend move here from New York City (born and raised in Queens) for the sole reason of wanting to work for Boys Town as an audiologist or speech pathologist (can never remember which one). Â Seems like they must still have a pretty good reputation in the ENT community.Axel wrote:No they're still perfectly fine.

The rendering is stretched slightly (way to go OWH), making the buildings appear taller and more imposing. Either way, the rendering looks great, and this will be impressive from Dodge St.
Can you imagine if 80 Dodge were going up across the street??? You'd have the beginnings of a Dodge Street canyon in that area...
