Post by bargainhunter »

Anyone know of anything going on at 28th St & Broadway?  There seems to be some activity & a construction office trailer.

Which corner?

NW Corner = A new KFC that was just built
NE Corner = an old building
SE Corner = A newer Taco Bell

I assume you are talking about the South West Corner.  I think that building needs to be bulldozed, but i think I saw roofers working on it the other day.

On a side note, the Railroad line that parallels Broadway has been taken out of service.  There is a red flag up near the viaduct and the track was removed next to the new HyVee.  I would assume that means the elevators are also no longer in use.  If you removed the elevators and this building you could have a lot of land to work with.

According to the Nonpareil...
A dollar discount store may soon take over a large, vacant building on West Broadway.....The current Family Dollar store at 3415 W. Broadway will be moving to the South 28th and Broadway location when it’s completed
According to Steve Carmichael, the city’s chief building official, Family Dollar Stores Inc. has applied for an interior remodeling permit for 2801 W. Broadway, the site of the former Jubilee Foods grocery store.

I couldn't agree more.  I wish there were more retail options on our side of town; i hate having to go to manawa for everything.  I know i pay more to go to true value, but it's closer so i generally go there whenever i need something.

From the Nonpareil:

http://southwestiowanews.com/articles/2 ... 731099.txt
The Family Dollar store that was located at 3415 W. Broadway has moved up the street to an 8,000-square-foot store at 2801 W. Broadway, the site of a long-closed grocery store

Yes, it was also known as Foodland for a few years as well.

Around the same time as the strip club. They have torn down MANY buildings in the past few months on Broadway. we counted 9 from March-July. It has been a great improvement!

All kinds of stuff.  Everything from Strip Clubs and Trailer Parks to Factories and the Grain Elevators. I need to get some update shots.  West Broadway is really changing.
