City continues to pursue Mid-City Corridor development in Council Bluffs
Council Bluffs officials continue to pursue a new look in the central part of the city. . .
Later this year and into 2014, city officials will seek a “game plan” on how to best develop the ever-expanding green space in what is called the Mid-City Corridor, Gross said. The corridor’s boundaries are Indian Creek and 13th Street on the west and 10th Street on the east with Fifth Avenue bordering the western edge stretching to Avenue G on the north.
Development possibilities include expanding walking and biking trails in that area, Gross said, including an expansion of the 13th Street trail to a new one at the redeveloped First Avenue. Other recreational uses could be developed. The expansion of a community garden on 12th Street just north of the Broadway Viaduct is also a possibility.
Single-family housing would not be suitable in that area, Gross said, and a low traffic volume would discourage retailers from building there.
