The building at 2200 W BROADWAY Street in Council bluffs was demolished in the past few days. It was most recently a Mexican Grocery store.

For a little history, before that is was a Rex appliance and electronic store. I know the owner of Taco Johns across the street and he told me that Zach Wiegert bought the land and plans to develop it into a strip mall.

I was down there today and wondering about this and found it is a Dunkin' Donuts is going there from what I found.

That will be interesting with Krispy Kreme opening just 2 blocks down the street.

Dunkin’ Donuts is coming to Council Bluffs, pending City Council approval

According to Wiegert, the restaurant itself would provide 2,200 square feet of dining space, plus a drive-through. It would be a full service restaurant, offering sandwiches and teas, besides donuts and coffees, he said.

“With council approval, we’ll start immediately afterwards,” Wiegert said. “We hope to open this fall, maybe September or October.”

I drove by on Tuesday. Looks much nicer than the previous building (Rex, and then the Mexico Lindo Market) I used to work at Taco Johns right across the street and parked in the the lot where this development is going. Broadway in CB still has a long ways to go, but with the New Hy-Vee across the street, the hospital clinic on 31st and Broadway and now this strip mall, I think they are headed in the right direction.

Dunkin' Donuts is set to open on Oct 29th. It will be the 6th in the metro area.

"Construction permits have been issued for a Z Wireless store, as well as a new Pizza Hut restaurant for the mall at 2200 W. Broadway, the Council Bluffs Building Division said Tuesday."

From the story, it sounds like Pizza Hut is closing their store out by the Mall of the Bluffs and combining it with the East Pierce location. Assuming the one on W. Broadway is only carryout and delivery, there won't be any sit down Pizza Huts left in CB.
