This option, from the Iowa Department of Transportation, is in the form of a kiosk installed this week at the Hy-Vee grocery store on West Broadway. At the kiosk, people can renew their Iowa driver’s license or ID card.
Additionally, residents can get a replacement license or ID card under the following stipulations: if their previous card was lost, stolen, or destroyed; if they need to change their address within the state; or if they want to remove the “under 18” or “under 21” marking. The kiosk works by scanning the existing card or entering the information by using the touch screen, Spiegel said. What’s more, the machine can take photos, which can be matched with their previous photos on file with the department via facial recognition software.
For payment, the kiosk only takes Discover, MasterCard and Visa credit or debit cards. No cash or checks are accepted.
Including Iowa metro counties.
