BLink Wifi

Post by skinzfan23 »

Bluffs to build one of country's largest free wireless networks
The Council Bluffs Area Wi-Fi Consortium officially launched BLink, the Bluffs Community Wi-Fi network, during an event Thursday morning at the Charles E. Lakin Human Services Campus, located along the eastern edge of the wireless network.
No password is necessary for the Internet connection, which can be found by searching wireless settings for the “BLink” network. All users have to do is accept standard terms and conditions for the network and begin using their Internet-accessible device.

BLink is now available around Wilson Middle School, spanning from 13th Street to 23rd Street north of Broadway. The northern edge reaches Westside Drive to the west and Avenue P to the east, according to a map of the service area provided by the consortium.

The second phase will reach much of the rest of Council Bluffs’ west end north of Broadway. Service should drop off around 13th Street near Interstate 29. Free public outdoor Wi-Fi is already available at Tom Hanafan River’s Edge Park through a previous network built by the city with support from Google.

Council Bluffs Mayor Matt Walsh said progress will be made in “rapid succession” to become one of the largest open public wireless Internet networks in the United States, an achievement mentioned by other speakers Thursday.
